hi all just got back in the work room starting a small build new concept , from M/S it is going to be a series of beginner builds by DAVID A, suprise i got it for a couple reasons one makes a nice CHRISTMAS GIFT two experient with the ecoline pen brushes so far mixed results, but just showin the intro. of the kit will show more of the boards tomorrow, if i may say so the last 3 kits i got from M/S has been a great improvement from there normal kits seems like they are starting to use some new techniks but the biggest is instructions and plans no more 40 or 50 year old kits so here goes20200408_193328.jpg20200408_193443.jpg20200408_193656.jpg

Whether you plan to experiment with Ecoline pens or just want to have fun building this little boat, we are grateful for your return to shipyard! You are correct, those small boats a great presents because they are hand made. Also, they are so much fun to build! Enjoy, I will follow with the interests! :)

more pictures of the dory, showing boat bottom and stern and stem pieces installed used the paint pens before gluing and let me tell you the ECONOLINE PAINT PENS DO ABSORB INTO THE WOOD DEEPLY USED SANDING AND EVEN ACOTONE NO GO IT DOES PENITRATE AND MAKE SURE ALL AND I MEAN ALL GLUE IS REMOVED, i am putting it away to dry and i have a coat of tung oil on it so i will wait a couple of days and then give it a coat of wipe on poly20200408_223408.jpg20200408_223650.jpg20200408_235852.jpg20200408_235852.jpg20200409_000304.jpg20200409_000304.jpg

Hi all a little work today most of the day was with my DAUGHTER and GRANDSONS, reaaranging the work room, living room, bedroom, bath room left alone why LOL my daughter is a whiz at this just like her MOM was saw things i never thought of her words GET OUT OF MY WAY) OK will take some pictures tomorrow now looking for fittings for the vacs whole purpose of doing this is DUST DO NOT NEED TO START COUGHING UP BLOOD, so her is a little update on the DORY first a little problem you have to make sure the strong back fits the pattern EXACTLY, now i find that there could be a problem for NOVICES and any one doing this as a diversion,, the OPARTS ESPECIALLY THE FRAMES ARE FRAGILE I MEAN VERY FRAGILE, now my problem is the use that i wanted to do with the bECONOLINE paint pens i have to re think as if i can not get ALL THE GLUE OFF it will be a mess, the ideal thing to do is give a drop of CA to reniforce joints problem also for finishing have to give this some thought20200410_003320.jpg20200410_005742.jpg20200410_010347.jpg

A little update on my diversion project an some insights just from me, showing frames with strongbacks (my term) assembled on the building board, i like this, for novices the fragility should be more emphised, the frames can snap just taking them out of the boards, also not enough emphisis on the clinker style planking it has been a long time since i did a clinker build if my memory serves me i used a compus to follow the plank all planks the same distance an then glued the next plank on, the instructions call for a bevel to the line and a term i have not heard before a rolling bevel also showing the bottoms dry fitted to the frames i probably i leave this for a short period waiting for more ECOLINE COLORS TO COME IN20200411_041740.jpg20200411_041946.jpg20200411_042732.jpg20200411_043619.jpg

They say a change is good as a rest Don.Great little project and a very nice colourful result.I too have taking something out of the stash.I will post a short log when I have overcome my current computer issues.Something completely different,Still a ship,a more modern one.Mainly plastic with lots of electronics.I intend it to be a swiftish build with perhaps @300 hours of work involved. It is something as yet unillustrated on the forum. With a few RC builds appearing,I thought it was about time to show something in this field.

Kind Regards

Nigel
