Mary Rose - Caldercraft Build log [COMPLETED BUILD]

Amazing information and I love the graphic, however, I’m having real problems figuring what size cord to use. It sounds simple to say 1/80 scale is for every 80 inches we get 1, simple but if rope Is 2 1/2 “ circumference what size twine represents that in 1/80 scale? Let’s take 1 1/2 ” diameter, divided by 80 will give me twine of MIND GONE BLANK Do it metric 37 mm / 80 =.46 so, say .5 mm, does that sound right?
Mondfeld has 2 tables where he gives the different ropes in percentages of the main stay. And the thickness of the main stay, 0,166% (1/6 part) of the diameter of the mainmast at the deck (100%). I made an Excel file where the tables of Mondfeld are processed in. Just insert the thickness of your mainmast on deck in scale (example 10 mm and you see al your rope thickness of all your different ropes.
Below in the file you can see the different ages of the model you're building in tabs.
Maybe this is helpful. :)
And maybe we can insert these ropes in the file to to make him complete.

Edit: but this is not at all on topic about the question :D lol.

Things are moving slowly forward on the build, everything seems to take so much time. I finished rigging two more cannon.

I am fairly pleased with what I’ve done but was un happy about the hatch covers, so I remade them.

OMG I just noticed that the brass strip has moved lol

I have been trying to find out how the cannon balls on the gun deck were stored. The only thing I’ve found is the picture below showing cannon balls in net sacks. I would be grateful for information.

I suspect those nets are grape shot. Net loaded into cannon complete, splits apart on firing and acts like an enormous shotgun.

It's looking good! I am also building the Mary Rose. I'm almost done with the framing, and will begin the first hull planking soon. Hope mine looks as good as yours.

I am not sure, if such racks were already used at this time of the Tudor ship

In all sketches / renderings and also in the museum, the iron balls were laying around and in one edge of the ship it was called "shot locker"

maybe they used such wooden boxes? or these were used for the black powder ...

At the ship directly no racks were found.....

Maybe some information are mentioned in the several existing archeological reports and publications are mentioned ....

My progress has slowed down, I found it difficult to glue and position the belay rails and the stretcher underneath. This is a very long process now with the triangulag 3 hole deadeyes, with chain and a lot of them!!E13131E6-776D-4996-AB32-52DE247BF135.jpeg4614317E-FCB3-4B13-87E6-138450ECA76F.jpegB8F1D0DF-F164-43A9-9D6F-7215C0145CFD.jpeg8921D9A2-3D33-4BEF-B5ED-B708B166DDC0.jpeg

I have struggled to interpret the flow of the build recently, I look at the printed matter and it’s hard to make sense of it. Lucky that my first build was an occre hms beagle with loads of pictures and vids available. I think I see the way I need to go now and the order of work. All the bottom triangle deadeyes are now in place and I have begun work preparing the masts.30E0C185-DAC8-4F31-A711-8473D9993C1E.jpeg61F82B99-E894-4DDC-A995-B25D3FBA2A69.jpeg967C3B9F-EC05-402C-9501-927AA5CF4803.jpegC1C5396E-6E82-44B1-93E1-3D7D89858BA1.jpeg

This was my own boat, a dickens class TSMV GRIFFIN which was admiralty built. I refitted the interior for live aboard and decks for diving and salvage. I took the boat from Portsmouth uk to Elba in Italy and worked aboard for 10 years. She is a double diagonal mahogany on oak construction 50ft long 40 ton vessel. That was 22 years ago. I might build a model of her in the future
