New on your bookshelf ..... show it here

New book, for just € 12,50. That's a bargain and I couldn't ignore 'not buying'. So I did. Especially because another shop asked for the same book 144.

The VOC retourship by NH Kamer. Very interesting book. Maarten mentioned it to mee. And I had a digital copy of it (not easy to read) so this paper one is a nice add to my bookshelf. Especially , because it gives a nice description about how these ship where build.

I have two extra copies of Scantlings of Royal Navy Ships 1719-1805 from Seawatch Books. Freight out of the US is ridiculous right now so better to ship within North America. Anyone interested in a personalized signed copy please PM me. $25 plus freight.

On a Sea of Glass: The Life and Loss of the RMS Titanic

By Tad Fitch, J. Kent Layton, Bill Wormstedt

Recently purchased as a Kindle version with a paperback copy on its way. I’m a couple of hundred pages in and find the book a fascinating read so far. The descriptions of the original construction, layout and then changes to the build, based on findings from the Olympic, is well worth the purchase alone. I can see this book being extremely useful for Titanic model builders.

A few words copied from a Canadian bookseller site:

“Profusely illustrated, including many rare and unique views of the ship and those who sailed on her, this is as accurate and engrossing a telling of the life of the White Star Line’s Titanic and her sinking as you will read anywhere. Made special by the use of so many rare survivor accounts from the eye witnesses to that night to remember, the narrative places the reader in the middle of the maiden voyage, and brings the tragic sinking to life as never before.”
