Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have finally gotten over our little set back in the rebuild section of the Old Ship Yard. We have reinstalled the Waterways on the Lower Deck along with the Spirkettings. We have installed the Carlings & Beams to support the Scuttle Covers to the Boatswains and Gunners Store Rooms, also a couple to the Coal Hole. We have built and installed a Ladder to the Lower Forward Platform Deck. Now it looks like we can start to plank the lower deck, ENJOY.

I thank you all very much for all of your visits to my build log on the little ship the Oliver Cromwell. Also for your very kind words and nice comments.



Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have been busy all week long lugging timbers and planking the Lower Deck on our little ship. We have also dry fitted the Riding Bitts Pins along with the Main Jeer Bitts Pins. This we found to be an awkward little task, as we had to work down inside of our ship as she is still attached to the building board.



My Admiral was also very generous and bought me one of those little hand saws by Manwah that came with an assortment of 3 different blades that will come in very handy when we finally cut out her Gun Ports. She also gave me a package of ¼” IMG_5382.JPGIMG_5383.JPGIMG_5384.JPGChisel Blades along with a pack of # 2 Straight Edge Blades. I guess she figures that I have been shaping my old blades just a bit too much, they will come in very handy, ENJOY.

Hallo Lawrence,
Today we can see, that you more or less fully planked the deck over the full width, so all the beautiful interieur work of compartments etc. will be covered.
Are you planing to make some window openings into the frames, so we will have a side view?

Thanks for your visit to my build log. Yes, I am planning on having cutouts on the port side so as to be able to see the insides of this little ship. I want to wait until the Whales are applied before doing so, this has been my plan all along, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have built and installed the Lower Deck Breast Hook.

We also built and installed the 4 Scuttles Hatches in the forward Bow area. We also built and installed the

Boson's and the Gunners Store Rooms that we have yet to build, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have completed adding the artificial Treenails to out Lower Deck planking as it seemed just a bit to plane. We have cut and temporally installed the Main Deck Beams in the Bow area so as to build the bulkheads in the bow. We later decided to cut the notches for the Carlings since we do have these Beams temporally installed, this will be a job for our little mill, ENJOY. Regards Lawrence

Thank you for your visit to my build log, also for your very kind words and comments. Yes, the Treenails on the lower deck are artificial. I made them with my Scriver and highlighted them with a led pencil. The large main deck beams are of two pieces of cherry wood that I had left over from the hull framing. I just laminated them and cut them out roughly on the scroll saw and finished shaping them on the little mill. I did run the lower deck planking full length as working down inside the building jig would be very awkward to lay decking planks to there correct length, so I opted out on doing this. However, I do plan to treenail and cut the planking to there correct lengths for the Main Deck, ENJOY.

Thanks for your visit to my build log, also for your very kind words and nice comments. Yes, the little mill is very handy. For the notch on the lower Mane Beams, I just put a block of wood a bit narrower than my beams lay the beam in the vice that is tied down to the X & Y table, set the height of the mill cutter and just cut in slices up to my mark on the beams. Very simple but making them all the same height. For cutting the Beams I drew the shape of the top of the beams on my wood also on the bottom, cut it out on my scroll saw, sanded it down to the line on my disk sander leaving a little extra to be cleaned up on the mill. I used the method that is shown on page 221 of my TFFM book but improved on this design by gluing a finished Beam to my already jig that clamps in the vice on the mill. Then taking very shallow cuts rum the beams through the mill. This way I was able to clean up both upper and lower sides of the Beam. Hope this helps, just go slow, use a push stick and you will achieve a nice job, ENJOY.

Welcome to my build log on the little ship the Oliver Cromwell. Also for your very kind words and nice comments. Yes, I have had a few setbacks and rebuilds in this build due to the fact that I have been using my plans along with those in the book TFFM. Harold Hahn's plans ate not bad at all but he did not pay very much attention to the inter build of the ship. And this is where I have created most of my little problems. This POF build is a learning experience and also very enjoyable at the same time, ENJOY

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have built and installed the Bulkhead between the Boans and the Gunners storeroom in the Bow of the ship. We have also installed a Lantern in each and drilled in one for the Led Lamp that will be installed later. We did temporally install the Main Deck Beams over this area to mark them out for the Carlings that we have begun to cut in the mill, ENJOY.
