Oseberg 1/32nd from Pavel Nikitin - With hopefully also many added details.

Tony,
Thanks for your nice comment - glad that you will also build this great kit --- Good choice indeed.

As much as I am enjoying (well mostly) working on the Oseberg hull planks -- It's guaranteed that Floki would fire me. ‍ some slight gaps in the planks - ship would eventually sink after launching Ragnar would be incensed as well.

But, not visible looking from sides - and deck planks will hide inside hull small light leaks - These are because I did not specifically use Pavel’s alignment instructions along with the required kit parts in order to achieve proper alignment, as I had mentioned in a previous post. Deciding to have several hull boards removed for visual look at cross frames and mast inner bracing bits helped create these issues. I had not totally thought out the possible consequences...

It will work out - I have a, sort of, plan for these mistakes..I hope

Thanks for your continued support and interest in this log.

Cheers,

Hi,

Have been busy trying to finish outer hull planking - here are some updated images - I have made some unfortunate mistakes at bow and stern areas..Needed to remove the deck board plank cross supports to resolve the mess that I made.... fix to be figured out..

Retrospect - of course - let me see how I could have avoided that. As I also intend to scratch build deck boards - it will help...hopefully -

I am comfortable with how the hull planks have come out - Next up are the needed repairs, then airbrushing the hull with several tints - I will use Pavel's colors that were also received with a previous order. Thanks for your continued interest....

PS: I have also decided on a solution for the 1000s of nail and hull cleats... Will share as well.

Regards,

Thanks mates,

BIG News - I have been in communications with Pavel - requesting some extra parts to resolve my mistakes - He will help

THIS IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT from his reply this as well

You may also find the continuation of this trilogy interesting: Oseberg — Gokstad — Tune. Gokstad in 1:32 scale has just gone on sale today. It is a much more serious ship, and in my opinion, a very interesting one to build. Next year, Tune is planned for release in the same 1:32 scale, and this will complete the full trio of the famous Viking ships from the museum in Oslo.

With best regards,

This new kit looks to be absolutely incredible. The Gokstad also in 1/32nd

Grant,

thanks - glad to read that Paul is right ROTF

My continued communications with Pavel regarding the mistakes (100% mine) and a proposed fix are so beyond the help that I had requested (a couple of extra parts).

When I get to the fix part of this log - I will share all of the details. His company is great - I have also decided to purchase his new Gokstad - will get to it after the
next one under the table is built - The Woody Joe Higaki Kaisen.

Then I will probably have retire a second time haha....

By 2027 the new museum should opened so that will be great as well. A retirement flight - Solo my Admiral would have no interest at all

Cheers,

There's a lot more in Oslo than just the Viking museum. ;)

There is a travel agency I have looked at, can't remember the name right now, that will book a self-driving tour of the area of different durations. My Admiral is of Danish descent and really would love to go. We are thinking of a round trip from Oslo (Viking Museum) to Stockholm (Vasa) to Copenhagen (another Viking museum). Driving allows you to really soak up the culture and meet the people along the way.

Russ,

Yes, to your points - indeed Oslo has much more to offer. Thanks for your suggestions and thoughts..

Already on my list are the Kon-Tiki Museum, the Fram Museum, the Norwegian Maritime Museum, And the SAS Museum (located at airport - so an easy one on the way out) Certainly, much more including city walks, local food and so on.

Much needs to still be determined - I plan on booking with SAS, which will also allow for a hub stop in Stockholm.
I flew with them last time to Stockholm (2018 ) - spent time with the flight crew - which for me is always "a must" when possible..Hmmm...haha

Flew on an Airbus A330 - this was a nice machine - Airbus still produces these with a healthy order backlog..

I was hoping to board one of their A350s - but not meant to happen -those did not start service until 2020 so -- possibly in 027

A350 --- By far the most advanced flight deck in commercial aviation. (last image)

Jan,

Indeed
- we all started with analog "steam gauges" back in the day - Today's training crews are all looking at glass. So much easier -- the primary flight display screen incorporates six of the previous analog instruments. And speed tape also adds V speeds and flap speeds as well. along with auto pilot information.
ONE last image - speaking of instruments Concorde 1969.- and that was visionary - 57 years ago....

Working on fixes as well as making some adjustments to the kit that was a bit wrong in a minor area. Text within images -- so far so good.
