Other hobbies that are not ship model building

I'm a licensed Amateur radio operator, after a long long time interested I finally took the plunge 3 years ago. glad I did. I built plastic models for many years also other miniatures. I dabbled in balsa planes recently, didn't really grab me like I thought it would I used to oil paint a lot don't anymore but that was a long time hobby, plein air which is all done outdoors on site. I surf and boat fish saltwater. This hobby now wooden ships takes up most of my time now but that's ok I love it. I spend a lot of time reading. Sci Fi, History, Science, Bios. Love classic movies.

Hello Jimsky, first of all thank you. In a way, it's my job. I trained as a car mechanic, trained as a technician for 17 years in the field service on the road and directed forklifts and I have been workshop manager for 4 years. With this job, I don't have the opportunity to screw up so much anymore, so you look for a job to get away from the stress of the office. On the other hand, I need something delicate and that's where shipbuilding comes into play.

For me.... well, I try to get out and golf in the summer but haven't got out in a while now. Winter time (Sep to Mar) I still play hockey, and am turning 49 next March, but our ice time was cancelled due to covid last season. I am pretty big sports nut and watch a lot of hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs) and baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), plus F1.

I gave fishing a try on and off over the years - have great fishing in the Great Lakes and Detroit River, but only ever fished from shore, as I don't own a boat or know anybody really that has one - odd considering I live in a fairly large city on the Great Lakes - we are major port city.

Lastly.....living a couple blocks from the Detroit River - ship watching is a thing I really enjoy - relaxing, we have many beautiful waterfront parks, and it's neat to see ships from around the world, and looking across and seeing Detroit, USA

My great love is to rebuild old timers. So a complete restoration. Especially the little VW Karmann Ghia is my favorite and I hope to get a VW T1 at some point. Here are a few pictures from my current project.

The "Sekretärinnenporsche" is a beautiful car - I also love classic cars, but unfortunately not able to restorate by myself - so I am a pure driver of classics.
I am thinking about buying a Volvo P1800 ....... the same period like your Karmann - BTW: your work is looking very good - so you try to get her between 1 and 2 or?

Hello Uwe, the Volvo P1800 is also a very great car.
My standard is to get 1A, with photo documentation and appraisal. Whether it will be 1A, 1B or 2 is still up to the examiner and how his day was.
A question about the Volvo, what do you want to spend? I can ask around. ;)

Hello Bluebeard cool box your beetle. Great project for the tuning scene. Unfortunately not historically. I love tuning cars, but also originality, both combined and then only as a rat I think it's awesome. However, respect to your project.

Thank You Tobias:
I also paint with óleos, so I used my beetle as a new metal canvas you might say.
The first time I competed, won Best of Show and was published on Hot VW Magazine.
So after a couple if years competing my son started to drive and needed a car, so I sold it and with the money I bought my son a Mustang.

The P1800 should be in a very good status, due to the fact, that I am not able to work on the car by myself.
Also british cars are very nice - MGA, Healey 3000, TR3 or 4, or or or....
BTW: Very good work on your Käfer !!!

I do leatherworking in my spare time (mostly building custom holsters and cartridge belts for the Cowboy Action crowd). I have a fledgling YouTube channel with videos of me building them.
. . . or do I build models in my spare time? I forget which is which.

Few picts of my "fancier" pieces.

I like to paint and draw. And I build and fly model airplanes too.
