Yes, actual car photos…

I guess I must have somehow misunderstood the product as I was somehow under the impression all you have to do is just put it together as the car is already fully already painted. I also thought the car was mostly metal. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks\

It would be a good idea to look at my Lotus 72 build log to see what you get. It’s a mix of metal and plastic parts. Some are glued and some are screwed together. In addition, plastic to plastic needs plastic model glue, metal to plastic or metal to metal need CA. Rubber to metal needs silicone glue.
Also the plastic parts are like a plastic model on sprues molded to one color. Not very realistic unless you paint them for extra detail. Even the painted metal parts are one color, they’re just metal. The body is painted and you only need to add a few decals.
On my Lotus 72, I added some kind of paint and detail to almost every part on the kit, whether it was dry brushing, washes, painting bolt heads, etc.
If you put it together with out painting anything it will look like a toy, which would be a shame at the price point it’s selling for! I have seen people do it, but I can’t imagine why? It’s a model, and you can put a model together without painting anything, but it’s not going to look realistic.
Here is a picture of my Lotus 72…
I put some kind of extra detail on every part of the motor and transmission. Even the radiators were molded in black plastic. I dry brushed them silver. So as you can see, it would not look very realistic if I left every silver part the same color and on the black parts left them all black instead of painting the bolt heads, plug boots, etc. I even dry brushed the exhaust to look heat cycled. I scuffed the tires with sandpaper for realism. So even though you could put it together without painting anything, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to add extra detail for realism. I sure am!
Once again see my build log and I show the parts. And I showed how I painted them for extra detail.
For reference, here is a kit someone put together without painting anything…
Also I have shown the parts for this kit at the beginning of this log, not all, but enough to get an idea. There is two boxes of metal parts, and a large box of plastic parts on sprues.
So the “painted” means everything is a base color!
The biggest help is the body is painted.

It’s time…I got the itch! Where do you start with a flat 12 cylinder engine with two plugs per cylinder? That’s right, it has two distributors with 12 plug wires each…that’s 24 plug wires and 12 injector tubes!
Anyway…it starts with the transmission in this case…
And the parts as provided in the kit…
Here I had already glued the cooling ducts together for the transmission. The metal parts are a solid color, no detail. The plastic parts are black, no detail.
The first step was to sand the seams on the cooling ducts and add some filler…to my surprise they were not molded in color…
So they were painted afterwards.
Here is all of the parts painted and detailed…ready for assembly.
And yes, that’s a starter that goes on the side of the transmission.
Now after assembly…
Well that’s it for step 1

Thanks Jan, I am having fun thus far...I am not so sure about all of the plugs wires!

The headers had to be assembled and painted. They were silver, however the reference picture I have shows them painted black up until the collector.

And the header flanges on the block needed to be painted black to match (note right side in photo)…
Then the headers were installed with 6 screws each…
Then the cylinder heads and valve covers were added and their bolts painted.
And that completes step 2!
Looks like I forgot to paint the spark plugs…then I will be ready for step 3

This step builds the front of the motor and adds the fuel injection unit (C-5) and the manifold runners and cooling fan shroud.

Looks like a bunch of black plastic parts…so a lot of painting ahead! Then I can complete step 3…

Unfortunately the belt for the fuel injection until broke…sigh! So now I have to try to find a small black rubber band the right size and length. Or I have to be creative and find another way to make a belt.
Other than that, step 3 is finished.
