Revell Black Pearl

Very nice build. Also great to see the Saturn V in the background, I remember building that as a kid - and fixing it a couple of times after it got knocked over.
 
I like the choice of gold on the gallery. This should be a really nice Pearl when finished.

Thank you! Yes I honestly love Nasa and the Saturn V is a gold mine for display. ;)

Thank you! I am very excited for how it will turn out! I plan to display it for maybe ever due to my love of the first three pirate movies. So I wanted to make sure it looks really nice for decades to come!
 
That's a pretty good size model at that scale, but it seems rather expensive for a plastic kit. I haven't built plastic kits for decades so I may be wrong as I don't remember how much they cost when I last built one. Anyway, it's a nicely detailed model which is what I've always liked about plastic. It's much more difficult to achieve the same level of detail with wood. Keep up the good work Azog.

Thank you everyone! Yeah this was not a cheap plastic model for sure. Now it's even more if you live in the US because Amazon ran out of stock. But because I love Pirates of the Caribbean it made the model worth it. But to an average modeler, I can see how this is quite overpriced.

On a side note I was wondering if you guys can help me figure out how to give the mast texture.

I want these mast to be light grey when finished but I have to figure out how to get some black to show through. So what I was thinking was painting the mast a base coat of engine black paint (same color as the rest of the ship) then paint light grey over it. Then sand it? Not sure this is where I would appreciate some help!
 
Since it seems by the pictures, the mast seem very smooth. I would take some sandpaper and rough up the mast a little - not over do it too much. Then like what Bob said, I would do this like I did a Plastic hull many years ago.

After sanding to rough up the mast, then go with the same color scheme you have been using. Except alternate and dull black with a very dark gray. When it dries, then take a very light grit and sand until the multiple different layers of paint start to show through. The roughing of the mast will somewhat simulate a wooden texture. The mast also has those rings spaced out - those are wooldings. I would take some black rigging line and wrap those over the existing rings or you can sand down those rings and replace with heavy black rigging line. (about .8mm)
 
Very nice. My daughter wants one. But Revell did a limited run and when you find them they are almost 200.00. Way too much for a plastic version IMHO. I looked at the Russian version. I think they are the same. But not sure, it is a little cheaper. You are doing a great job here. Like to get one but not sure as of yet. Or scratch build it I can score some plans.;)

I really appreciate this! I'm going to try it on the bow spit once I'm done with the gun hatches which I'm currently working on. Will post pictures of those soon though.

I feel bad for you my guy! To be 100% honest though I really believe that if someone really loves pirates of the caribbean or loves the black pearl like me this model is worth that $200 price tag. Who knows if we will ever get a 6th movie along with a model company re issuing the ship. So the odds of getting another black pearl are slim but I totally know why you think it's overpriced.

Just looked at German eBay. Here you can get the Revell kit for around 100 Euro, which is appr. 120 US$.
If you add postage you will get it maybe for 150 US$ delivered......check it out under eBay.de

I feel like the further I get into this model the more I fall in love with it. As I am now working on the gun hatches which is a real challenge lets go back 1 week ago when I worked and finished the back of the Pearl.

Starting the back one of the first steps was getting all the beautiful golden angels glued on to act as supports for the cabin itself. Surprisingly it was very easy to get these all glued in!

The biggest struggle with these angels is how the the back side piece didn't match up with the other hull piece. Because of the not lining up the angel didn't have a full surface to glue on. So I came back to my good old friend Mr.Putty. Sadly you can also see where I messed up. I was sanding up the windows due to their excessive length and didn't know I was sanding the sides of the back window section. Even though its no issue putty can't fix it made me quite upset with myself. 20180307_215632.jpg
This time compared to the past I used some green putty hoping glue and paint would hold easier then the white putty. You can also tell I filled in the crack on the back window section with the same putty.

Looking at the back all done I am really quite impressed by the look of it. I was worried there would be too much gold and be too shinny but I think it turned out beautifully! The only thing left on the back is to glue the lanterns on but probally won't do that until last due to the lack of need to. But as you can tell in this picture the putty worked perfect. The glue I applied to it is holding the angel in place and the paint sticked flawlessly.

Before I glued the last side window piece on I thought I would take a picture. A really cool picture in my opinion!
 
I need your help! Were trying to tie the thread to the gun hatches as shown here:20180324_160451.jpg
Due to the string being so thin one knot doesn't keep the string from pulling out of the hole. Does anyone know a technique that will allow me to not do a double knot but will allow me to tie one knot while keeping it tight so the string doesn't pull out of the hole? It is almost impossible to double knot sue to the thinnes of the string. Thank you!
 
Lights look really good ! - and all that Gold too !!
 
After some time I have gotten a ton done with the ship! When we last ended I was just about to start the gun hatches and they do look really good!

My first step was tieing all the knots around the gun hatch then gluing it on. So once they were all glued on they looked very ugly like this.
But the next step was to get all the knots tied to the post that stick out of the side of the ship. 20180401_184145.jpg

Sadly we could not get a knot big enough to allow two different strings, but thats fine at least to me. We just used one string and wrapped it around then tie it to the post.
 
Following after the gun hatches was attching all the chanels which there is 8 of them in total. 20180403_193705.jpg
One of the harder pats was to get these little tooth pieces into the channel molds. Those tooth pieces will hold on to the rat lines. To get them into the channels I found it the easiest and the least painfull way was to use needle nose plyers as shown in the picture.
