Revell Viking Build - Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. So begins the build of the 1977 Revell Viking Longship based mainly of the 9th. century Gokstad Viking Longship found in a burial mound at Gokstad in Sandar, Sandefjord, Vestfold, Norway. It is displayed at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway. It is the largest preserved Viking ship in Norway.

The hull basecoat is Rubber Brown, which will make detailing easier as I won't be able to get into every seam due to the clinker-built design. I can dry-brush a lighter shade progressively and weather it with an oil wash. The main deck and sub-assemblies were given a basecoat of flat black, to prep for the lighter tan shade for detailing.

I think the closest to how it could have been in reality, would be something which would look like this when you stylize it:

And the closest what I have found on a real ship would be this. If you make the head look downwards....

I'm going to stick with the kit supplied figurehead.

I haven't abandoned the post, just having to take a break and run a new wire circuit to the workshop. we had a pleasant Christmas and so far a perfect new year - just one day in though, I'm sure that will change .
