ROYAL CAROLINE 1:30 by Zhl my version, by Peglegreg

Hi Greg great work. 2 planks a day will finish the sloop in a week. Looking forward to the progress.
G'day Maarten
Not really, at my slow rate, about 4 days for the rest of the planking. Then the ribs, seats, decorations, shade house, barrel, and the six oars etc.
I say in about 2 weeks at my rate. Lol
Greg
P.S. does anyone knows if use to use treenails in clinker planking? I bet @Uwek knows that answer.

G'day Greg, they used copper nails, with a, I think it was called a Rove that went over the end, I think it went like this,

they drilled a hole through both planks and the frame, then inserted the copper nail with a flat head, then on the inside they placed a copper washer over the nail, nipped off the extra part of the nail and peened over the washer the part of the nail that was left,

hope this helps, your boat is looking great, coming along fine,

best regards John.

here is a link Greg, thanks for the chat the other day, I feel a bit better now,

Thanks John for that information and comments.
Do you know if copper was used in the 1700's for this application? And if so, what was the size of the bolt?

Thanks Maarten for your insight. I dont know if I should use wooden dowels or copper bolts. Hmmm let me think:oops:

Sorry for the late reply.....did not realize this talk about clinker
Sorry, but in my library I did not find anything, also not in the book
The Boats of Men-Of-War

I know that the vikings managed this with wooden nailing
But I can completely follow the info given by John before, also for this period...

Thank Uwe
I should have known that John would have known. Silly me, I feel so embarrassed now .

Bonjorno Greg,

Appears that I am a bit late to the party, From now on I will closely watch your build and please be healthy!

G'day all
BUMMER BUMMER BUMMER!
We just bought for our 3 lounge room' windows 3 plantation shutters.
Sounds good, hey. But my wife said that we should paint the lounge room first and change the carpet to floating timber floor, and then, we can do our bedroom, as its needs painting (but I can't see that) and also she wants the carpet to change to the timber floor as well.
There goes my hobby time for a month, but then....
.....you know how one job leads to another, well you guessed it. Because the skirting boards around the whole house is tiny and only 8mm wide and 25 high, I have to change the skirting boards in the lounge and bedrooms to new 19mm wide and 62 high. But and this is a big but, all the skirtings flow through out the whole living areas of the house, so I have to change and replace all the skirting for the living areas and the door and windows frames.
The total amount of timber required required for this job is 287 meters. Then it has to painted. And we got 85 square meters of flooring. There maybe enough flooding to do our computer room, we see, and more work!
My wife says that she will paint the rooms, if I do the skirtings etc. We will both do the floors, Luz will be my labourer.
So it looks like my next 2 or 3 months has been planned out for me.
So no more shipwright work for me until that is all done.Ship-1Thumbsdown
Boo hooSpeechless.
I hope that you all will have a very merry Christmas or whatever holidays you follow.
Happymodeling to you all and please think of me....... slaving away.Cautious:oops:

G'day @Jimsky
Welcome to my build and all your likes. My health is a bit better now, and that is why (I think) my admiral wants the work to be done.
We had the timber flooring and the skirting boards for a year now, waiting for my health to improve.
Again BUMMER for me.PoopPoopPoop

I think i am already tired from all the "to do list" .. o_OROTF make it fast and get back to the shipyard !
Cheers
G'day @Brito_686
You are correct about that 'things to do list'.
I spent the last 3 day cutting the correct lenghts for the windows and door's trim. There's 24 sets of trim done and I have to work out the best and most economical way to cut the 5.4 meters length to make them.

I can join the skirting boards, but I don't want to join the door and windows trims.
That was a big job (and slow) for me. I'm completely knackered now.
Thanks for your comments mate.
