San Felipe (yuanqing)+Pear carvings

oh poo....looks like i may build one more after this one.....the utrecht pegasus,........one my wife would like to keep....on the small side.......i hope my body will agree.....cheers, vc
Hi Vic,

That is a beautiful kit allthough it hasn't much to do with the Utrecht.
I have been sailing on it, a beautiful ship.

oh, i'm late....been distracted by an upper respiratory infection.....over month now...don't think i'll do anymore modeling..too old......lovely photo, and yes ...a rather overkill model, but an eye catcher....but i just don't know what i'm gonna do with myself now....sheesh.....especially, way up here with the loooong winters......
will post some completed shots shortly

so that's it...been an expensive struggle....could have done better but would have cost too much more......i give myself a 70% on this one, but am sending it to a store in prince george bc to sell, and at least i'll get my money back plus some....was thinking of purchasing the utrecht pegasus to whittle on, what ever years i have left....but i think i'm too fragile now to do any more ships.....
and in retrospect i think i spent 1/16th of my build time, looking for small pieces that dropped betweem my legs.....
.cheers....vc

Congratulations, your model is magnificent.
You have inspired me a lot.
Thank you and well done again. Thumbsup

would have liked to have done much better on the model, as it was a bit of a pain in the arse, and i would have had to spend a lot more money.......was tooooo expensive.........................but thanks mucho!!!.......

well..............i'm gonna do it......i got some pearwood strips from joseph volp....................and gonna rip off all the outer planking above the waterline, and replank, which i should have done in the first place....will sand, paint, and re-rig the deadeyes too.....gads.....who knows what else.......i just couldn't live with the original failed effort..... hope it will work out..........cheers...............

You are really brave to start your planking all over again.

May I ask about the gold paint you used? Specifically, what type it is, how it was applied (brush or spray), and what brand it is?

Thank you in advance

yea, was very scarey....might have had to toss the whole thing....but...but....i got it replanked with pearwood.....not sanded yet...and have to decide whether to cover it with krylon chrystal clear flat or satin urethane......the urethane would end up darker.....we'll see...
my favorite gold paint is sheffield deep gold leaf 2oz.......$30 plus $20 shipping to canada....i just repurchased some today from amazon.....i think i got the last one.....just brushed on........have to be careful not to let it evaporate, as a thinner for it is hard to find..... i'm just a 75% modeler, so i can complete a model in one year instead of four, and airbrush is too sophisticated for me.....you can check around....you can probably get it cheaper if you can find it....i contacted sheffield, but no answer yet.....will let you know if they respond.....
hard to do this work in my tiny little bedroom in a retirement apt....wife is sooooo tolerant......heavy sanding done in a lockers hallway.......
by the way ....i got this fantastic quick dry white glue called lepage wood glue express...dries in 10 minutes.....saving me from ca poisoning......cheers......

It's unfortunate, especially since changing colors in the middle of a project is really not ideal. I hope you find some.

thanks...ha...now i find other things i would like to improve too...will probably turn out to be a winter project.....
