"Santa Maria" 1492 a.d. Kit from "Ships by Pavel Nikitin"

At the beginning I will show what I think this ship should be after the completion of construction. Since the structure of this kit is very different from what has been common for the last 50 years, many modellers have questions that the paper instructions cannot answer, I will start building a second ship like this one to show the nuances that are encountered during the building process.

Hello. On youtube chanel @vanmacvideos3774 was posted assembling process. And there are mentioned errors of model set. Are the errors corrected now?

There are no bugs in the kit, unfortunately there are incompetent builders for whom this kit is too complicated. On the same channel is open dispute by several modellers who build the same kit, and there is a detailed description of the mistakes that the author of the channel, it is they and led to the end of the difficulties in the construction. The author of the channel does not show a video of the construction, but only photos of the stages of assembly, it is very incorrect in relation to the construction process itself...(
Finished models from this kit are not less than fifty pieces, and built well).

Just started it within the last week, Neil. So far, so good! Had a few hiccups on my end I had to correct, but the kit is coming together nicely. I'm about halfway through the bulkhead placement, so pretty early in the build.
Have you started a build thread on here.?

While we all recognize and appreciate your experience and your craftsmanship, Pavel, I feel like I must take exception to your words and am hoping it is simply a translation issue between the Ukrainian language and the English language. First of all, for each of the five previous kits I have worked on, plus for practically every build log I have read, even the most experienced modeler has come across something in a kit they have that they must work past, whether it's a missing part that they must create themselves or a laser-cut sheet that doesn't quite pop out of the sheet quite right and it breaks off a necessary aspect of the piece that needs to be fixed... whatever the hurdle is that they must get over. This is a part of each ship model build process and what makes it challenging and rewarding.

I am hoping that for the translated text of "incompetent builders", perhaps a better translation that you were meaning might be "inexperienced builders" or "struggling-to-find-a-solution builders".

But a literal translation to "incompetent builders" isn't going to win you a lot of friends or future customers, sir. I hope that this was not your intent.

I look forward to your Santa Maria construction videos next week, as I am just beginning my own build, as well. Thanks, Pavel.

This kit just arrived at my home. I have been following the other builds and have watched the construction of several other Nikitin models. They are beautifully imagined and unique in the world of ship models. Like others, I look forward to your videos that will (hopefully) help my assembly of the Santa Maria go more smoothly than it apparently has for others who--despite the difficulties they ran into--seem to have worked skillfully through and around them.

Hey Doug! Nice to see another builder will be starting Pavel's Santa Maria! Look forward to following your build log. I am in the early stages of my build, but have my build log over on MSW, if you are active over there, as well. No doubt, once finished, these ships will be beautiful!

Thank you for the heads up, GG. I will be sure to follow your progress and will document my progress. I plan on giving special emphasis to the areas where of the other modelers have encountered problems and how Pavel avoids or addresses those. As an Arizona-based builder (mostly), I sometimes--but not always--encounter problems with wood "shrinkage" and "swelling." I am especially anxious to see how the Nikitin pre-cut planking works out.

Hi GGibson, I have some thoughts on Pavel’s comments. Here’s some quotes he left
on my YouTube channel of the Santa Maria. “Unfortunately this kit is too complicated for
you” “ So far you’re doing very mediocre” “ The complexity will be insurmountable for
you” “He is not a Professional builder of ships”. These are not translations errors. It’s
intentional. He tried to pass it off as translation errors. He doesn’t like the fact I called him
out on the errors and flaws of the kit. Even in the unboxing video you can see some flaws,
mis marked pieces, missing rigging blocks, ropes in the wrong box’s. Also, did you notice
he didn’t show a serial number? He has already turned some people off. I recommend you still build this ship. When you work way through and complete the build, it is satisfying. Sending along some completed photos.

My view is, at least Pavel replies and is on this forum makes him more accessible than any other major ship manufacturers.
I have never had a reply from OcCre or Amiti when even asked about a query.
Admin….. delete this if it’s getting a bit heavy.
Every kit is going to have its blips, considering we are talking hundreds of various pieces.
That is why we are self confessed modellers.
