Sovereign of the Seas - Sergal 1:78 (with hopefully many added details)

A very creative solution. I'm guessing you take care of all the decorating and interior design at your house!
Paul - Yikes - the Admiral would be annoyed :rolleyes:ROTF

She is an interior Designer - UCLA grad - and has, along with her partner, been in that business for many years.
They (her partner retired) did high end commercial and residential projects - including some (a few) very famous people’s offices or residences - names that everyone would know right away. Not gloating - “just The facts Ma’am” (famous quote if you grew up with 50’s TV - though NOT directly spoken by Joe Friday - but parodied by another actor (Stan Freberg)

So, per your kind comment -- anything my adult married eyes have also learned are certainly a partial result of her visual preferences. That said, regarding the Sov. She will, occasionally come into the shipyard and give un-asked for advice - yikes the nerve ROTF from a sweetheart that “hates” aviation and has no technical interest in anything that floats.
That’s why were still a good team…:) (that last comment was also a great repeated rhetorical line from an excellent movie)

Regards

Hi all,
Finishing up with bits that would normally be aboard.
But! need to change the anchor - as much as I like it - it's just too big and looks out of scale. Purchased that other one - hmmm looks to
be better scaled but weak looking by comparison, and is missing its customary grappling hook bits. Will make a wood stock and paint the
shank black - TBD

You have always been a master of the details, John. As long as you're having a 'rethink' over the anchor you might want to do the same with the chain. Can you find something with smaller links?

How about this anchor: https://www.woodenmodelshipkit.com/cart/

Not sure of the size of the current anchor and if this one is smaller or not.

Miniature chain: https://ppw-aline.com/collections/miniature-brass-chain

Paul,
Thanks for your advice. The Grapnel anchor comes in 20mm - no smaller - I had checked with that source (though your link did not contain any product)

That other one that I just got is 15mm-better scaled…IMO

Regarding the chains - I’m tempted to live with the existing one. I have several Kilokits chains that I got for the carriage capsquare retaining pins - but are all, obviously, much too small. Most of their chains are intended for plastic warships - I did purchase examples of all of their three size chains. All too tiny for this purpose.
.
That silver one in the first image might work with that smaller to be detailed 15mm anchor. Work still in “mental progress” I'll blacken the chain as well... forgot that I had one piece leftover

Again, thanks for your advice

Cheers,

Make the grapnel style anchor out of "J" shaped brass wire, glued together with CA, and painted black. To make the barbs at the ends, smash ends of the wire segments flat into round, flat shapes, then file them into triangles to form the arrowhead shaped ends. Do that before you bend them and glue them together. Form the eyelet at the top of the anchor by having on of the 4 wires longer than the others, and use that extra length to form a loop for the eyelet. Attach the anchor to the chain and Bob's your Uncle! Scratch building can often have better proportions and even more detail than many kit parts, of you are clever with your tools and materials.

I had not actually through out a "how to" for that solution, even having that first image just below within my files - noticing that he had made the anchor as you just suggested - but I ignored the idea without a thought also because the builder left his anchor hanging - something I did not plan on copying.

I intend on leaving the anchor aboard the boat - BUT, it is in fact too big. The other unpainted one is not just right either.

You have reactivated my sinapses. I need to got to Ace Hardware in the a.m. will also look for appropriate brass wire and give it a shot. Thanks for your idea which will also allow me the option of several "size" attempts until I get one that looks "just right. I will follow your specific instructions as well.

Will leave plan "B" on hold for now -- results TBD.

PS: found images online -- last image - to offer Kudos for this great example (Y. SHIONOYA) - LOVE the stern lantern as well!! This builder bashed the Sergal/Mantua kit. I will probably totally copy his stand structure extending the wood framing in order to also fit for a plexiglass enclosure.- I happen to have a set of those sea monsters lying around - they were intended for the Vasa years ago.

Good morning John. WOW this is so good. I love the details. You completely own this little boat. Cheers Grant

....and she looks perfectly in place on the ship. Maybe overkill but it does add to the cannons....IMHO. Cheers Grant
