Rob,
Having a pencil next to that bell and mount drives home how tiny that is! Wow! You must have some fine magnifying lenses to fabricate that. I love this, it looks very authentic. Now if you can just engrave Stag Hound on it, that would just be awesome.... ;-)

We’ll After all the work on the bell……..I decided to make a better one

Geeze Rob, I hate to "rain on your parade" but I've got to admit I like your first bell and mount much better. It looks more authentic than the 2nd one. That's probably because I've never seen a ship's bell inside a circular mount before. I have seen them inside your original arched mount.

I had to mentally process the bells validity. Your honest appraisal caused me to rethink the modernism of the last bell mounting. Research showed that the latter was the most accurate. I’ll mount it today.

Rob,
Thanks for your sincerity. For the record, my modeling days paused decades ago. I fully respect your truly incredible craftsmanship abilities.

Thanks bro. I realized your attention to period craftsmanship might just be the ticket. I figured it would be close to what railroad manufacturers use.

Rob,
I don't quite know where I've seen it, possibly in contemporary ship paintings but your 1st attempt was the most authentic to what I've seen. About the only difference is that the bell would have been smaller to the metal arch. The circle bell was just too modern. Your final version is, for lack of a better term, more nautical.

After much searching, I ended up for aesthetic reasons choosing the one I did . Here is an image I modeled from. Note: these are railroad engine bell mechanisms.

Rob,
Considering your tiny bell and stand are about 1/8ths of an inch tall, that's remarkably accurate detail.
I know....and I just piddle in the tiny modeling world.....like it was second hand. I've been building clippers for so long in this scale that it comes so naturally for me. I don't have to worry about wood grain, or dove tailing cabinet work, creating Pro typical functioning blocks....etc......etc....
The *Hint* of what it's suppose to be, and the idea, that *paint covers a multitude of sins*. relieves me of the stresses of being a purist.

If I can fake it and make it believable, then the art of illusion works on my behalf.

Thanks for your continual support and encouragement.

Rob
