Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic from Liebre

Hello Bob,

Thanks for your kind words

I have seen the Midwest Shops Movies, and got a lot of inspiration from them

I know that his wife, in the beginning, made the windows herself to size and I understand that she stopped doing that, because it is not possible to make more than 300 custom windows in large numbers

In my hometown there is a model building store that I regularly visit, I saw plastic sheets there, and decided to make them myself for all the windows

The sheets that I used are 0.25 and 0.15 mm thick (Product nr 602-02 0,25 mm) en (602-01 0,15 mm))

There is a website in the Netherlands where you can order them, but I think you should be able to find this brand in the US as well

The products that are on the website are in stock here, so usually a 10 minute bike ride to pick something up:)

Regards
Henk
Thanks for the info, Henk!

The Trumpeter Hull

I think Trumpeter has done a very reasonable job of representing this in their one piece hull.

Unfortunately, this kit suffers from inaccuracies on the underside that seem inherent to all 1/200 single-cast hulls from Trumpeter.

The detailing of the plating is missing and I decided to apply it myself.

In addition, I cut off the thick hinges to replace the rudder. for a tailored version.
There are plenty available on the web to apply the plating yourself.
I made them from 0.2 mm Evergreen plates, and I also closed and sanded some kit portholes that were not supposed to be there with Putty.

You did an excellent job on the stern plating. I particularly like how you’ve executed the overlaps. This was a lot of work. I know becuase I’ve done something similar on my Titanic, although not as well as you have.

Still working on the lighting Peter

Some rooms in the photo that are not yet illuminated will still be illuminated, the lighting takes a lot of time, in addition, to prevent so-called light bleeding, I test everything in a heavily blinded room

I’m just catching up on your Titanic Log. So, apologies for the comments on older posts. I am at the point with my Titanic kit where I’m planning the lighting (after previously deciding not to light the project ;)). Do you have any diagrams of your wiring? Also, did you use the yellow LEDs that came with the kit or did you go with a warm light LED set?

Very lovely work!

Also not lying about the not too friendly environment in that FB group you mentioned...
You guys must’ve asked a question and been told that “SEARCH WORKS!” ;) I’ve had a few occasions where I hesitated to ask advice about approaches to certain things, such as porthole glazing.

No apologies needed
Always nice to see how others do this to get inspiration from it

For the light see #49 in my log

I don't have a light scheme

I got my inspiration from here

Henk
Thanks! In retrospect, it was a silly question. I asked it before I got to the posts where you’re installing the lights. Thanks though!

I’m still on the fence about adding lights. I’ve drilled and glazed everything, but I’ve spent so much time on my hull that I’m getting anxious to move the project forward and I’m doubting whether I’d appreciate the lights over the long haul. i don’t see myself keeping the kit lit up or turning it on now and then. Or I could just be lazy. ;) ROTF
