USS Constitution 1:70 Scratch

These are crazy difficult to make. They are so structurally critical, have to fit together so precisely and are in no wise straight forward, with so many angles and curves.
Again. This is really sophisticated geometry and tricky small scale wood working. you really have my full attention and admiration for your skills! Okay

Seriously. I wish I had a video of you making these assemblies.

Daily update. Not much progress, but this is the current state of the model.

Note: For my friends who don't know. You can visit every part of Conny by clicking on the Google maps link below. I see the details this way and add them to my model.

When I started building Constitution, I never thought I would go into this much detail. In fact, building the gun deck wasn't even on my agenda. I only intended to do what was stated in the building instructions for the Model Shipways kit. However, while looking at other modelers' build logs, I noticed that a few modelers had also made the gun deck, so I decided to do the same. I am now very pleased with the decision I made.

Main beams and supportive beams around the foremast are in progress.

This is a real question (not a criticism)...

I'm surprised to see the athwartship beams with half-laps to receive the longitudinal beams (carlings?). Is that the way it was done, or an accommodation to make it easier to build on a model?

As always, your scratch work is inspirational!
