I am manufacturing and attaching the structures above the gun ports, the name and function of which I do not know. Later, I will paint them black.

After flattening the 1 mm brass wire by hammering, I bend it with a jig and glue it to the board I prepared before.

I always thought these functioned as a sort of drip-edge (to redirect water). But maybe that's just something I made up in my imagination...

This may be true because I heard this from a few other people but they were all just guessing.

Beautiful build and have enjoyed your level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and solutions to fabrication at this scale. With that said, do you have intentions of installing deck hull scuppers? I believe at this scale, it will add another level of realism.

Thank you. Yes, I will install the scuppers. I am making the gun port lids right now.

I'm back at the shipyard for a few days and took the opportunity to start making the gun port lids. I will leave the lids in the open position.
I didn't add the lid hinges since they wouldn't be visible anyway. I glued the lids directly to the top of the ports.

The English called them rigols to keep water diverted away from the port but theirs were made of wood. Those on the USS Constitution today can be seen below.

I think Rigol is old English for Gutter.

I am currently finishing my first wooden ship model build from an old Mamoli kit of Constitution. Totally blown away by the standard of your scratch build. You are setting a standard of modelling work for the rest of us to aspire to.

I think as others have said they were gutters to divert water from the ports, but also served as support for hinges and ropes to pull the port up and open.
