USS Constitution 1:70 Scratch

I’ve started working on the gratings at the bow. Unlike the real ship or the plans, I won’t be making them out of many separate pieces. Instead, each side will be built from just two parts.

I’ve already made the forward gratings, but I haven’t glued them in place yet.

At this stage, since I don’t want the ship to take up more length by extending the hull, I decided not to add further elements to the bow.

Instead, I returned to working on the masts. I began constructing the main topsail mast. Using an 8 mm round dowel, I cut it to the appropriate length and shaped the lower square and octagonal sections with the milling machine. I then tapered the remaining upper part up to the octagonal shoulder on my lathe with the help of sanding, and afterwards created the shoulder itself with the mill. Initially, I mistakenly cut the dowel too short, so I had to extend the square-sectioned portion above the shoulder by adding an extra piece.

Once the topmast was prepared, I made the crosstrees and mounted them in place.

I fabricated the jeer blocks, stropped, and attached them to the top of the main mast.

In the MS plans, both the upper and lower jeer blocks are shown as triple blocks. I don’t believe this is accurate, because the lanyard’s lead should start from the main yard and finish at the upper block. For this lead to work correctly, the lower blocks need to be double blocks. Therefore, I will be using double blocks on the lower position.

İkinci resimde başlangıç yeri gösteriliyor Oktay bey. Resmi büyütüp dikkatli bakarsanız başlangıç ucu serene sarılmış ve oradan üst üçlü makaranın en sağdaki makarasına gitmiş.
