USS Constitution - Model Shipways

One thought is how difficult will it be to place the lifeboats after the rigging is complete? It may be easier to place and lash the lifeboats in place before the rigging. I am sure there are those here with more experience who can give us their opinion on this.

Good point.

I recently cut one of the lines on a boat. I had to go back and do everything over. And tiny belaying pins are a horror. I’ve built two Connies and had the same problem with both.

That's what I was thinking. I don't even know if I will be needing all those pins to begin with. I am going to check out the belaying diagram just to make sure.
It's craziness the way it is right now.

I used the diagrams from the Anatomy of the Constitution. That helped a bit. But the old kit only had plastic pin racks with pins installed. Half were broken off or stubs and unusable. Plus there weren’t enough if I were to add all the sails. So I made up places to belay them wherever I could.

Well I had a look at the belaying diagram, and it seems that all those pins are accounted for. Sigh...
Anyone install the mallets like in the photo below? I am leaving them off.

Nice job, I just finished my deck as well with the boats. Now I'm trying to translate the foreign language built into building the masts because its enough I didn't fully mark my dowels for the masts when I cut the sizes out way near the beginning of the construction of the ship when prepping the deck and the holes. Then I realize I have to redo the mast boots after messing with the holes and refitting the dowels and cracked them, so I've created my own new problem, lol, and need to rebuild these somehow. Oh well, such is life throwing curve balls...

thanks. Yeah I had to ream the mast boots as well in order to get the dowels to fit. I am anxious to finish up the hull. This is the most difficult ship I have ever built(6).

Well, if there's one thing I learned through all this, is patience is the biggest virtue. I also have come to the terms that even though I've done everything with a machine, it still comes out pretty good. I live watching scratch builders because it brings a great dynamic in seeing things done almost perfectly and I get a better picture of how something is done. I've found anomalies in the practicum and had to work around them. I even didn't hangs my way instead of the practicum because it was just too trivial or not practical from my visual point of view and still looks nearly identical to what's in the practicum. Which ever way you build this model, I still consider it very advanced regardless if you scratch build it, bash it, or straight out build.
