Very thin wood strips

With all due respect, you specifically posted an inquiry looking for .020 x 1/16 strips. Then you posted you wanted to create strips from sheets. A number of people took the time and effort, including myself to answer. Now it doesn't appear you actually need them. Not to mention it's not even for a ship model!
Look at it objectively, you posted a simple question, "Anyone know where I can purchase (USA) some 1/64 x 1/16 or .020 x 1/16 basswood (or similar) strips ?" You could have simply typed into google .020 x 1/16 stripwood and the answer will pop up. Sorry I wasted my time responding initially, thought it would be helpful.

Do you have a camera? If it is part of your smart phone, then you could take the picture with your phone and either connect it to a PC or send it to your email. There are many sites you can search for that will show you how this is done. There are a couple more steps that are done after that, but we can see.
Yes.. an Android ,which I don't know will work..wife has smarter phone..waiting for the big day I can post some pics!

I'm sorry you feel that way.
I have never created strips from sheet before, but am not oppoosed to that at some point. But, the only reason I was looking for that specific size was due to the fact the Model Expo sent the wrong sizes. I was not looking forward to sanding them down, but have done it with a couple now.
As far as the thread not being for a ship model, I would expect one of the admins to take this down. I did ask in another thread if anyone knew where I could find more info on airplane model builds. I don't feel you wasted your time at all, and appreciate all responses. If my reply made you feel uncomfortable, then I appologize.

Actually there are no small number of airplane builds on this site, and I think most of us see the close kinship between wooden ships and the Model Expo planes. No reason to feel abashed about that part.

Just thinking about cutting strips from thin stock and methods I've used in the past. These two cutters work well, a x-acto bladed cutter and a rotary cutter used with a straight edge....71RPuhnIPYL.__AC_SX300_SY300_QL70_FMwebp_.webp71n7rDo89VL._AC_SX679_.jpg

Good luck finding 'that'! I had to buy a roll of 'edge banding veneer' off of ebay (Veneer Depot). It's .015" thick x 2.0" wide x 160' feet long, Maple wood. Cost $30 bucks. You can cut thin 1/16" wide strips out of this via a knife or one of those cheap office paper cutters/shears from Amazon. Maple was the only light-colored wood available. There is no adhesive on the back but there 'is' some sort of a micro-thin, bumpy clear film on the back. I guess that's for better glue adhesion. That film is so thin that there's no need to worry about it (I don't).
Hope this helps...

I wonder if that stuff on the back IS glue & that you've got 'iron-on' veneer.

A ship modeling Aircraft relationship:

When my father retired he went through a later life crisis trying to figure out things to do that would satisfy him. Having always been interested in aircraft he joined an EAA group. They were happy to have him as the airplane that they were building had wooden fabric covered wings; like jbradford’s jenny. As a boy he had flown in a Jenny but that’s another story. Anyhow, he agreed to build the wings.

Like the Jenny kit, these wings had plywood ribs with cap strips bent around them. These cap strips were both glued and nailed with 3/8” and 1/2” flat head steel nails. When I cleaned out his shop after he died I inherited a whole drawer of these nails. I find them to be remarkably useful not for building the model itself but for making the craft plywood jigs and fixtures that I make.

So see, you never can tell.

Roger

I would love to see some of your father's, and now your memorablia.

Try Northeastern Scale Lumber Co. 99 Cross Street, Methuen, MA. 978-688-6019 I think they may have the size you are looking for. They are one of the best scale lumber companies in New England .They have been in business for many years

I checked out their site and might get some from them.

Thanks

Since my other hobby is model railroading, I've been using scale lumber from Mt Alberts in Canada. (They ship to the US). They are owned by Fast Tracks. (https://handlaidtrack.com) The lumber catalog is buried in their menu. They offer basswood in the various model railroad scales (N, S, HO, and O) as well as dimensional lumber. I buy their bulk pack in 16" lengths. I've used HO scale 1X lumber that is close to 1/2" thickness in 1/4" scale. Attached is a photo of a boat shop I built for a future Maine coastal theme model railroad layout. It is scratch built using Mt Alberts lumber.

I have posted photos of how I built this model over on this location: https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/forums/super-detailing-static-models.287/

The strips are going to be cut into very short pieces to use as rib stiffeners for the wing ribs on the Model Airways MA1010 Curtiss Jenny.
This might be sacrilege here but why not use plastic styrene strips and paint them? Dry brushing artist paints makes that pretty easy and very realistic. As a former plastic modeler I've seen some amazing "woodwork" done with plastic and a brush!
