I use stain number 705 on the deck, number 713 on the inside boards and beams. What type of stain are you using on the deck beams and, later on the deck planks and hull?
You're ahead of me on construction. I lost a part on plank # 7 and I'm waiting for a replacement. In the meantime I'm finishing the rowing benches and barrels. Your photos will be an additional help for me where the drawings and videos are not quite clear.
I've also found that the jig will be too high to use once the planking has been done and the model is upright. I have a set of foam holders to use for the hull.
Stains have numbers?I use stain number 705 on the deck, number 713 on the inside boards and beams.
These numbers are written on the labels that are stuck on the bottles. The set contains six bottles.Stains have numbers?
Tell us more in detail, please.Oar holes had only one notch and it pointed up toward the stern !!!
Kurt, see this post on my build log.Tell us more in detail, please.
Yes, I'm aware of thatOar holes had only one notch and it pointed up toward the stern !!!
Sure no big deal. A little concerned that you put on shields don't think any shields were found on ship although looks like it had the rail board that holds them.. Makes a nice touch though.Yes, I'm aware of thatSpent a few hours looking at the Oseberg in the museum, I hope you'll forgive me for the loose interpretation of the oar holes on this ship...?
Yes, of course the ‘Oseberg’ which is in the museum has not preserved shields, but I am still building a model, not a reconstruction...). Many elements of this project are taken from the excavations of other ships of the same era, and rigging from the works of famous historians on the era of 9-11 centuries. Well and of course I include imagination and try to imagine what was a Viking ship in the 9th century...).Sure no big deal. You are correct in that no shields were found with Oseberg, but yes, there was definitely a shield rail. However, 64 shields were found in the Gokstad ship burial in Norway in 1880, so it can be assumed that they may have been used on Oseberg. If you are building the model, the choice is entirely yours as to whether you wish to display them or not.Sure no big deal. Pavel, I have one question regarding your color set. I would like to use it, but it is not currently available in the US and I really don't want to wait another month to receive it. I know your formulations are alcohol based. Are they dyes or stains with pigment? I'm assuming they are dyes, but they seem to sand off very easily and dye tends to penetrate well, so I'm curious what you are using.Yes, of course the ‘Oseberg’ which is in the museum has not preserved shields, but I am still building a model, not a reconstruction...).
