VOC SPIEGELRETOURSCHIP BATAVIA 1628 - KOLDERSTOK 1:72

@Kolderstok Hans Der Vliegende Hollander certainly haunted the minds of many a man, but I prefer the thought of the 7P haunting the British Navy in reality! Then having said that, I lie awake at night planning the planking of the Fluit - so it will be a good contest between the two!:D
You certainly have chosen two beautiful projects. I look forward to your build logs.

Jan

@Richie Thank you very much for the kind words, Richie. The update-story is a problematical one as I often receive no updates on build logs that I have followed for a long time. Yes, the lantern issue was a tricky one - on the one hand that exquisitely cast (in bronze) Royal Caroline lantern and on the other hand the more basic cast resin one of the Haarlem. In the end, what looked to be historically correct, won out.

@Pathfinder65 Thank you my dear friend. The Willem Barentsz is a definite and then it's the choice between the 7P and the Fluit. In all honesty, the Fluit will probably win out because of its smaller size and challenging planking. You asked for another view of the ship - Enjoy!

That curvature sure goes around the bend... ;)

The skill in planking shown here is amazing. I like the softer and subtle paint tones with the wood hue. Rich

@PT-2 Absolutely Rich. Hans Groenenberg is a very experienced builder and he had his work cut out for him on this one. In effect, the hull is planked with two sets of frames - the second of which comes into play only after the deck has been laid.

I just looked at the time. Don’t you ever sleep Heinrich?:D
Very little, Roger! :D If I manage four hours a night, I'm lucky. Last night I was browsing SOS and following the USA Grand Prix from Austin.

Back to reality and back to the Haarlem. Next up chain plates (rusten)

Work started on the gunport lids - lots of fine tuning and finishing still required here.

And a final overview including the galleon and bowsprit.

I am really happy with how she is turning out. This ship has been a lifesaver during these times - working on her has kept my mind free from all the life challenges that lie ahead - even if it is only temporary.

Thank you all for watching, following, commenting and supporting us during these times! I cannot tell you how much it is appreciated!

Dear Heinrich, you promised to reduce the multi-meter bays of gun hoists. And why are they stretched over cargo hatches? Some kind of pun.:rolleyes::D:D
