What brand of Cyanoacrylate or superglue you use?

Wife can not tolerate smell of CA. So I found Bob Smith Industries(BSI) has two CA that are thick and odorless.. tho expensive, a little goes a long way. 2 ounce lasted over a year. Apply to small parts with the end of a pin's edge. For metal to metal or metal to wood, use J-B Weld. Works great.
 
My experience has been covered above but I will reinforce two things: First I have tried many brands of CA and have not noticed any differences by brand...so I now look for the cheapest...Elmers makes a good CA that you can get on Amazon. Second, if you need to wick CA between parts already tight in place then thin is the only option. But I use a lot of gel or thick CA to bind any two pieces. I have never had a problem bonding wood parts using gel CA...soft or hard woods. But, as stated above, it only takes a whee bit to work. Accelerator...I use a small spritz bottle of water...a light mist does the trick. Or in the case of planking, dampen the plank strip first...dot on CA gel...apply plank and it will bond in a few seconds. Gel or thick CA does not wick into the wood quickly allowing time to bond. I use two glues in my builds...a high tack quick dry white craft glue (Arlene’s Quick Dry that you can get in hobby and craft stores...I do not use the normal “wood” glues one gets for carpentry work) and gel CA (cheapest I can find). By the way...CA is great for bonding fingers together and fingers to the model! Just saying...

Ok ok, you guys talked me into it. I'll get a bottle and try that stuff on the next model. I've just been using Elmers Carpenters Wood Glue "Now Stronger Formula", which makes me wonder if anything I put together with the old weaker formula will now fall apart..... I always have a supply of this stuff around for the Admirals Dummy Do List around the house.
 
I believe that Mike has hit the nail on the head so to speak. I've never had issues with any brand of super glue. Just need to make sure your glue is fresh and that you are using the right type for the right job. For example, I also build acoustic guitars. Both top and back pieces tend to require joining two (or more) pieces together. The best glue to do that is a thin type (next to hide glue that is). Gel will do it as well, but not as well I find.
 
Hi all,
I built the Corel HMS VICTORY using GORILLA INSTANT glue with the blue cap. It does cause sticky fingers but if you do short spans you can move your fingers around while holding for about 10 to 15 seconds.
I had to experiment a bit but the ship planking, decks et al glued very well.

I would not recommend FOAM type CA for wooden model ships. That type of glue is intended to glue foam, not wood. It is made for styrofoam model aircraft. It has expansion properties that may give undesirable results so beware.

Those are definitely nice tools... I just use a darned toothpick...
 
I will have to get the Gel type and only use a few drops. I have some 'thick' from hobby lobby, but it is not really that thick. It more or less just soaks into wood and does not bond at all. (unless I were to clamp it for hours)

If that is the case, something is wrong. All CA's stick nearly instantly. Try to dampen the wood with water and see what happens.... or apply the glue, put the two pieces of wood together and then place a single drop of water into the seam of the parts and let it soak in... BOOM.. the glue will nearly "smoke" as it hardens instantly.... try it... If it does not work then the CA is "stale"... throw it away and get a fresh bottle. The smaller the bottle of CA the better. A bottle of CA that is less than half full becomes stale very easy....
