what is right

Trying to find a local hobby store in my state is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So-called hobby stores in my area only sell plastic models or ready-to-fly airplanes. Most of my supplies are USA suppliers via the Internet.
The vast majority of us have the same issue.

Dave Stevens is in the business of selling specialty milled lumber. The last true hobby shop that I visited was Carr’s Hobbies here in Duluth, MN, now out of business. He had a huge inventory of hobby related stuff but “lumber” was limited to strip and sheet basswood plus higher grade model plywood. Brass was the usual K&S offerings. Dave is offering a completely different service.

I have the equipment to mill my own lumber and a stash of raw materials to outlast whatever life is left to me. I do buy plywood 1/64” through 1/4” thickness. I am able to find this at our local Menards or at “craft stores.” Brass is available at Amazon or OnLine Metals.

My advice to Dave and others at the Lumberyard; Establish a policy clearly spelled out on their website that all orders to destinations outside of the USA will be shipped by international carriers that offer tracking to the final destination. It will cost more and they will lose some business but it is fair to both parties.

BTW: living not too far from the Canadian Border, where going. “Up North” to fish is a major activity, the Canadian Border people are a real pain in the You Know Where. Don’t try to cross with Non-Canadian Minnows!
