Wood it's characteristics and use in model building

Has anyone used repurposed wood for ship modeling? I have a 60 year old cherry bed frame that has plenty of nice material in it. Is wood that old still bendable for instance?

The answer is yes. For my present project I’ll be using a nice piece of mahogany for the baseboard and a piece of Sitka Spruce for masts. Both came from an old boat. Probably both are nicer than what I could find today, and after being milled over 60 years ago both pieces are still flat.
