HM Sloop Alert (1777) Vanguard Models

I finished the main deck this week.

I'm delighted with that. I've done new things. I made my own planks, fitted a margin plank or nibbing strake, and joggled the ends of the planks. I improved my micro-woodworking skills, considerably!

Perhaps best of all, the way the joint ends and angles of the extreme outboard planks line up athwartships suggests that I have managed to be consistent in the work. That's not something that I'm naturally good at, and something that I need to develop in modelling and life in general.

What an amazingly satisfying week that was. I've also made a few friends here on SoS which is even better than planking, if that's possible. ;)

In my enthusiasm I even considered starting a build log but on reflection, I’ll wait until I open my next kit rather than begin in the middle of this one.

I made a little progress on HM Sloop Alert (1777)

I was very pleased with the rudder platform. It's somewhat improvised but this build for me is for training purposes so I allow myself to experiment.

With the guns dry-fitted she's starting to look like a warship. :)

I won't post here again because I've abandoned my shyness and started a proper build log here.

Hello,

All of the yards other than the spritsail are hung, and ties, halyards, parrels, slings, etc... are complete for all. She really looks like a ship now ! Things are getting a little tight in there and I think I'm going to stop and add all of the rope coils I can before the deck becomes completely inaccessible

project started 15 months ago !
