YQ Bluenose Ted R (COM PLETED)

I'm confused here. The C233 black ropes for the stays appear to be twice as large as the ropes in drawing 8-5. This drawing indicates it is at 1to 1 scale.
The C234 rope appears to be the same size as the drawings.
Everything has come to a stop until I make sure the C233 is correct.
Please help.

Can't help you here; I exclusively used other ropes of different diameters. Maybe @Dean62 BN build is of any use, I think he, amongst others, used the ropes coming with the kit. Other builds to check: @mallacoota or @Robertd.

I actually did not use any of the supplied rope…threw it all away. Luckily I had a good supply of quality rope. I also use bees wax on mine to get rid of any fuzz, which kills the appearance of scale otherwise!

Thank you. I'm using the 3.5 mm pear blocks from Drydock Models. Only the smallest ropes supplied in the kit works out for the scale of the blocks for standing rigging. I don't have enough to complete the model and do t know where to get additional rope the same

When I was in the Boy Scouts we made a rope making machine and made your from twine at local jamborees.

First attempt at seizing the shrouds. Did it in yellow so I can easily see what I was doing and will color black with a magic marker.

What you are calling seizing is actually called 'serving' a rope. wrapping a smaller rope or chord around a shroud to protect it from being rubbed on by say a sail or other rope.

It goes to the end of the crosstree then on up to the top of the upper mast. I placed an eyelet out on the end of my crosstree and ran the rope through it.

I use what are called Flush Side Cutters, like regular side cutters, but offset to cut on one side instead of the center.

You may find them in Hobby Lobby crafts section or maybe jewelry.

Also Micro-Mark, or Model Expo may sell them.

I have used for years especially to cut model railroad track flush on ends for joining.

Amazon sells threads for rigging as does several other places. I think Model Expo carries thread too. Use calipers and carefully measure your thread diameter ( typically in millimeter i.e. 0.80mm or 0.15mm). I almost always use after market thread for ropes and lines.

Easiest way to measure thread size I have been told is to tightly wrap 10 winds around a card or dowel, and them take measurement and divide by 10. Much more accurate that trying to squeeze on strand for size.
