YQ Bluenose Ted R (COM PLETED)

My apologies, it was #267 on Liebre's build log.
As to effort, it is after all a hobby, and each of us has a choice as to what we are striving to achieve.

That true, looking through my beginner's glasses

All of the rigging from the foremast forwards is now complete.
The only work left is rigg the mainmast booms installing the aft decal, mounting the model on the baseplate and touchup paint.IMG20250105183622.jpg

After giving it some thought I think, sometime in the future I will probably tear out all the rigging on the Bluenose and replace it with appropriate materials from ropes of scale or equivalent.
The basic model came out pretty good but the rigging looks subpar.

While it sounds reasonable, I personally wouldn't do that. I restored a BB Bluenose, using the original bill of materials from Billing Boats for the ropes and blocks. Now looking back, I definitely would have done things differently and even considered starting anew with the restoration. After thinking about it for some time, I decided against it. This was what I was capable of at that point in time and that's okay; no need to redo.

Your always the voice of reason. I should be finished today or tomorrow.
Except for the mounting on the stand. I'm was thinking putting a mirror on top of the baseplate but discovered that the provided baseplate is warped.
That leaves all options open again and will require some thought.
Happy modeling

I just finished the rigging! I'm aware of the inaccuracies and clumsy workmanship!! I'm going to try to make some rope thanks. Saw a YouTube video by Tom Lauria. That man is a master craftsman. Will install rear decal this morning. I'm trying to figure out a workaround on the warped base. It really put the kibosh on my plan to mirror the roof the base. Looking online and these people want $100 for 1/4 square foot of wood. I'll let my subconscious work on it for a few days.

What kind of wood are you looking at for $400 / board-foot? Is this for a pre-edged, pre-finished baseplate kit with gold stanchions?

If you're looking for a small piece of lumber, our shop probably puts enough walnut/cherry/maple/poplar into the scrap bin to build 100 model ships per day. Employees then take this home and burn it for firewood. I can't get into the business of providing wood to all the members here, but if you just need a piece of nice wood of the above mentioned species that is large enough for a base, I could probably pull one out of the scrap bin and get it to you for just postage costs.

Also, if you plan on covering it with a mirror, it doesn't even have to be that nice. The tricky part will be drilling holes in the glass for the stanchions.

Another option you may consider is buying a wood base at Hobby Lobby or Michaels, they have many there some for trophies with cases at very reasonable prices.

You have really done a fine job here Ted. I would like to see a couple of photos from a distance say 5 feet away to better see an overall view.

Thank you. The crazy wood was unfinished with ogee borders.
They wanted $400 on eBay.
I think I have it worked out now.
Just back from getting the mirror from a local shop
I have diamond burrs to drill the mirror plate. Glass shop suggested Using a petrochemical lubricant.
He said if I screw it up he will still the next piece for free. Great business.
Panorama Glass on Arminta for the locals.
