Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all! It's true that in Russia we celebrate Christmas according to the Orthodox calendar on January 7, but nevertheless we already have a festive mood, including at the shipyard).

And outside we have Siberian frosts of -31 Celsius. But it's warm at home and the pre-holiday rush. We decorated the Christmas tree and are preparing gifts for our grandson with Christmas melodies).

Merry Christmas to you and your family
Your model is lovely and progressing very nicely.

The holidays were busy. We spent a lot of time together with my grandson, who came to stay. But in the meantime, I almost finished the work on the stern, with the exception of the gun ports and the rudder.

Not everything turned out perfectly. Nevertheless, perhaps the most difficult and painstaking part of the work on building the model is behind us. Unless there are minor difficulties on the bow of the sailboat.

Beautiful. Would you share the finish used on the decorative parts.

I imitated the gilding with liquid potala. It's something like gold leaf, only in powder form on a liquid binder. I doubt that this particular information will be useful to you, since I bought it in a Russian online store. But you can look for something like this in your art stores.

Thank you, it came out quite elegant.

Greetings to all. Today, on the night of December 13-14, we celebrate a funny holiday in Russia, the so-called "Old New Year". Don't ask why))), this is a story that has been rooted for 300 years since the time of Peter the Great. It is also indirectly related to the cases of a century ago when the Bolsheviks and Lenin came to power.))). This is an unofficial tradition, but nevertheless it continues to be celebrated in almost all families.
Meanwhile, I continue to decorate the sailboat with gilding.

I just carefully cut out these ornaments from the plate and installed them in place.

I do not glue all the details of the decoration, as well as the rails, but nail them on nails, because the case is covered with oil, even superglue will not hold them securely. I bought the carnations from Amati. They don't have hats, it's cheaper that way, and there's no need for big nail heads.

And so that there would be a small nail head, I do this: I put the nail on a hard surface, such as plywood, and roll it back and forth with a blunt cutter blade until the nail is cut off. As a result, a neat nail head rolls up.

Then I drill holes with a thin drill bit slightly thinner than a carnation in the decoration and in the board itself and nail it with a small hammer and a hammer.

That's a beautiful addition to the ahip model. Could you provide the part numbers or a link for the carnations.

I made a sailboat rudder. I used to make the brass blackening liquid myself, but my wife grumbled that I smelled like ammonia for three days afterwards))). This time I bought a ready-made tool. It doesn't smell like ammonia, brass blackens well, but unfortunately it doesn't want to blacken the brass wire, of which I have a whole coil, for some unknown reason.

By the way, the brass strips that the Chinese put in the kit are very thin, useless, almost like foil. It's good that I have my own stocks of brass sheets of the required thickness.

Love the gilding work. I never thought of using gilding. I’ve always used gold acrylic paints. But I’m intrigued now with this gold gilding.
