blocks hooked to the eyebolts
I'm no expert but seems unlikely to me blocks on hooks would be used on the bowsprit - practically they might lose to many to the waves. I also think it'd make the model and bit heavy to have both hooks and block, a nicely seized block is a nice look. I think Chuck's tutorial would cover a lot of that.

I would have fully rigged the bowsprit before stepping it, much easier to manage that way. I'd certainly suggest doing so for the mast, as I've done for my current build, before locking it in.

Really nice work on the deck. I have to long guns for the bow per the plans, looking at yours I'm not entirely sure how they're going to fit up there.

Glenn,
One cannot fully rig bowsprit on Cheerful before stepping it, since it protrudes bulwark at bow. It barely passes through the opening with eyebolts alone. If you attach blocks to eyebolts and rigging lines, you won't be able to step it in. Thanks for the advice.

My suggestion would have been to attach as much and as many blocks and rigging you could before mounting the mast. Perhaps you still can and plan to do that.

That is one good looking mast! Well shaped and I like the paint scheme, I may steal that.
Did you make the belaying pins or acquire them, they look perfect.

Love the wooden rings around the mast, they will look great when the sail is attached to them.
Agree with previous comment it makes your live a lot easier when you pre rig the mast before final placement.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your kind words, interest and likes. Much appreciated. Top mast including mast cap is not glued to the lower one. Shrouds, Burton pendants etc can be easily slipped on over the mast top. Four blocks on the aft side are hooked to eyebolts, not seized, according to plans. I bought belaying pins from model expo (https://modelexpo-online.com/Falkon...--10-to-a-package--The-real-deal-_p_1957.html) They are just right and seem to be pretty sturdy too. We'll see. Just in case, I have a handful of brass ones as well. Smaller ones (6mm) I used for quoin handles are very fragile. I broke almost every single one. Probably the last thing to install on the model.

Wooden hoops around the mast indeed look good, but no sails for me. As for the red color, being color blind, my wife picked it (cardinal red), after I showed her an image of a red painted bulwark.

Unfortunately, swiss pear belaying pins are not as sturdy as I thought they would be. After little tiny retensioning, it snapped. I guess I'll have to use brass ones. I do have some, but they look a little bit clumsy. Does anybody know of a good source for brass belaying pins? Thanks.

Not much of an update on Cheerful, rigging, rigging ... Not my favourite cup of tea. Once it's finished I'll post few pictures. Today I received La Belle 1684 CAF kit. It took only 10 days to ship from China to Canada. And, by the way, shipping was free. Wood and fittings are outstanding. I'd never be able to carve that figurehead. These CAF "kits" are in the league of their own. Until later, stay healthy and happy modelling.

Looking forward to your la Belle.
Stumbled across this video of La Belle, seems to be partly work from Bernard Huc and Gerard Delacrois.
So with his Monograph you can make it a top notch model.

It is very good, that you have the monograph too - it will help a lot
Maybe (this would be great) you could make a kit-review and later we hope to see a building log of your La Belle

Thanks for the clip Maarten. I've seen it before and watched it dozens of times. I fell in love with this subject long time ago when I found the work of Olivier Gatine (http://olivier.gatine.free.fr/og/index.html) Stunning. Monograph was a birthday gift from my wife 8-9 years ago. Can't wait to start work on La Belle. Thanks.

Uwe,
It would be next to impossible to build this model without the monograph. Instructions are definitely the weakest point. Once I'm done with Cheerful, I think I'll start a build log, review the kit etc. Thanks for your interest.
