ZHL Le Soleil Royal

Hi @Jay...hope you guys start to enjoy spring weather soon. That LSR has so many decks, makes me think it can actually be a cruise ship. You are making great progress. I am sure you will amaze yourself as to how much proficiency you acquired after that first build. Keep safe my friend.
Hey Reggie,
It’s starting to warm up here. The pear and plum trees are starting to blossom and just a hint of leaves on some of the other trees.
I’m with you on all the decks. The French sailors must have been tiny in comparison to today. When I was in 7th grade I was 5’8” and got to go below decks on the USS Constitution. Had to stoop down cuz I couldn’t stand up straight.
On the LSR I am not sure if I have to put some of the cannons in before I secure the rear and fore decks, guess I will figure it out in time.
One thing for sure Reggie is I’m in no rush and will take my time.

Putting the half cannon supports on the gun ports. Had two strips done and tried dry fitting them. I had put the supports on horizontally and a few of them were obstructed by the bulkheads. When I was doing the Black Pearl and that happened I just carved out a chunk of the bulkhead to fit the supports. I didn’t want to do that on the Soleil Royal so the supports that were a problem were taken off and mounted vertically. I also moved them to the furthest point of the gun port hole where the cannon barrel would not come in contact with the edge of the the gun port. I dry fitted the gun port strips again and everything fits perfectly now. I have a pile of cannon supports to put together now for the starboard side and the 3rd one on the port side. So as they say the longest journey starts with the first step. So I will get to gluing. F23D068A-6755-4A16-953F-FF0C9BA67052.jpeg4CF4713E-29BA-4D69-B1C6-80AD28E79E97.jpeg

Hi Jay
I had the same issue when mounting the cannon support and did glue some of them horizontally, some of them vertically

Gilbert, probably a common problem. Seems like the manufacturer could make a few adjustments to make them fit better.

Welp, I received the Soleil Royal from ZHL today. It took 8 days from shipping date, pretty good I think. Thought I would go ahead and start a build log and show the packaging. Still need to do an inventory of the parts. Won’t start working on it till I finish the Black Pearl though.
Hallo Jay´,
we wish you all the BEST and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Birthday-Cake

I am glad that someone is building ZHL's Le Soleil Royal--I am too and I need some help. I glued part 69 together (top picture). Next I glued several parts 69 onto the long strips/part numbers 58 through 64. I made sure that the hole for mounting the canon to p/n 69 was centered over the portholes in p/n's 58-64. Now for the problem--when I attempted to glue the strips 58-64 to the sides of the ship, the frames interfered with quite a few of the parts 69. I would appreciate any and all advice that you can give me. Thank you so much, Andy from Kenosha.

Thank you Jay and Gilbertm-->I'm hesitant about cutting away some of the bulkheads to accommodate p/n 69, so I'll use vinegar to loosen p/n 69 from p/n's 58-64; then I'll glue them on vertically. Thanks to the both of you--in the words of Charlie Chan: "Thank you so nmuch".

...or, the Passover boy depends on how you will look at it. :p :D
Vic, thanks. Actually was born on a Sunday but Easter was a week before. 9 months before I was born a UFO crashed in Roswell New Mexico, just saying.

On the ones that interfere you need to put them vertical. I am posting some pictures of my progress tomorrow and you can see what I am talking about.

I copied these three views from the Le Soleil Royal, and unfortunately the dimensions and texts did not come along for the ride. According to the build manual the top edge of p/n 59 is 3.5mm above the top of bulkhead 5 and 2.0mm above the top of bulkhead 6. The instructions further point out that the top of the end of p/n 60 should be 48.5mm down from deck p/n 28 and top edge of p/n 58 should be 9.5mm down from deck p/n 29. Having said all that--I cannot get all those distances together as a happy family. When I maintain the 48.5mm dimension along with the 9.5mm dimension--the 2.0mm and 3.5mm dimensions end up being 10.0+/-mm. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, Andy from Kenosha

I thought the gestation period for aliens was eleven months ;)

Try just tacking the ends of the gun port strip at the proper dimensions of 48.5 and 9.5 with a nail. The middle portion of the strip is somewhat flexible and you can pull it down to the proper height. I don’t get too hung up if something like that is one or two mm off at that stage of the build but that’s just me.
