Jack Sparrow beautiful work on your Mirage the only thing i noticed on the pic from oct 21 is that the main stay seems to make contact with the forward rail and bend down to the jib. if this were a full size ship the stay would pulverize the rail with the amount of tension on it. perhaps moving it fore of the gammoning would help?

I just led it by my Mirage over the edge and built the railing over it:

I tried my best to show the progress. The lower ratlines are completed and I am currently working on the upper shrouds. It's a little tricky because I am trying a new knot for the upper deadeyes. The idea is to use a single piece of rope to tie both the deadeye and the hook that attaches the deadeye to the futtock stave. Figure2 shows a detail of what I am trying to do. It makes for a lot cleaner look, I think.

A very nice looking build! I made the same many many years ago.

hoping no one would notice but you are correct it's not supposed to be like that. I guess I will have to fix it now :)

This is an awesome project of a very famous ship! If we (all SOS members) would ask you for a build log, what would you say in response? ;)
 
HMS Speedy a brig sloop, kit by Vanguard Models.
I was kindly given this kit as a Christmas gift by my wife and couldn't wait to get started. What's the saying; 'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Give him a fishing rod and you get rid of him for the weekends'. Perhaps that's her thinking. Any way I have got as far as just finishing of the second planking and now I have to make some decisions regarding the gun ports and sweep ports. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself can help.
First here are some pics showing how far I have got so far.

I'm not sure the gun ports would have had lids as such but might they have had some sort of removable cover that could have been attached from the inside? As for the sweep ports, like the gun ports, the kit does not supply or mention them but would a brig not have hinged doors like most larger contemporary ships? I the first three pics I have shown a small door with a horse shoe hinge that I made up to see what it would look like and apart from making the hinge too large to my eye it looks ok, but would these doors be correct? If any one who reads this can help I would apricate it. Sorry that the pictures are not to good I only have a phone camera.
 
Of the few sloops and sloop brig models I have seen, There were no covers evident for the gun ports. However, it is possible that canvas covers or internal wood slats would be used to cover the ports in harsh weather. I would suggest looking for books that deal with American and British sloops and sloop-brigs from this time period.

Thanks Kurt I have had a good look around and there is a bit of evidence to suggest that some north American as well as Dutch and Scandinavian boats had port lids but nothing from GB. The best example of a model with port lids is Model Shipways US Brig Syren and she has gun port lids split horizontally half and half. I think I will leave the broadside ports with no lids and cover the stern with half and half lids as per Syren.
