ZHL Black Pearl Golden Version by rickyboy66

I had a little trouble downloading the picture run me through the steps to post from my log let me know if it posted.

Hi I build this kit last year it was a fun build but it can be frustrating at times due to poor instructions and rigging plan. There is a trick to getting the deck in place, when glueing the frames in place don't install frame#6 (the one with two slots for the deck to fit into). When the glue has set install frame 6 and the deck together.

Thank you, oh it's certainly a challenge especially for my first build one step at a time and look way ahead so you don't have too many surprises.

If you are going to install lights (well worth the effort) and you haven't assembled the frames yet work out where the wires are going and drill the holes now it's will save you a lot of time later. Check my Black Pearl log for further details.

You will have fun with this build. There are a lot of us on the forum whose first build was the Black Pearl.

Hi this link should take you to my log.

If you click on the magnifying glass (top right hand corner of the page) and type in Black Pearl (tick the box titles only) you can access all the black pearl builds.

Hey Tony, let me tell you my story my first time i bought a BP back in November I was having back surgery the end of December I was going to need something to do. I bought BP model from Wish, it came in a plain box no label hardly had any instructions, missing parts, and so on i started building it and got frustrated, so after joining the forum i met Donnie I decided to purchase one from Max now I had a model I could build that had all the parts and plans.Did your model have black walnut 0.5×4.5×400mm that was to be used for second planking and the deck because for the deck material i would like something like 1mm. When I was playing around with the crap model I bought first I put some planking on the forward deck and it really hard to work with, it splintered a lot and really came out not very good.

Hi Rick. Just found your log. As others have advised, take a look at other BP builds here on SOS. Also note there are a number of different models of the BP. It looks like you have the “Golden” version. If you run into a issue, don’t hesitate to ask for advise from those that have already built the BP.

Thanks Jeff that's exactly what I'm doing a lot of the build logs are absolutely amazing, the skill level makes me wonder if I'm out of my league but I'll do my best and learn along the way and ask for a lot of help and questions and questions..............

Hi Rick.
A lot of people have commented on buying a cheap Black Pearl and regretting it, more trouble than it's worth. ZHL seams to be a good company to deal with. I wish I had used a lighter coloured wood for the deck, ZHL use the black walnut because they assume it's going to be painted black. The black walnut does splinter easley just be careful when trimming to size use a fine file or sandpaper and push against the backed up side. It's also best cut with a knife or a fine tooth mirco saw. Any other questions please ask.

Do you know where I might be to find something that's 1mm thick ? Did you the same plank on the hull?

While I was building this kit we where all in lockdown and the postal service was useless so I tried to use everything that was supplied in the kit, it was only after the second planking was finished I regretted using the same material on the deck.
My local (down under) timber suppliers are no good to you but 0.5mm works well for the deck as long as it's going on top of a ply bace.
