HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning. I have been researching more rigging. This ship is a tangle of ropes- I will need to order more rope againCautious. The plans I have (Heller and my Mantua) run the stays from the Mizzen to main mast via single sheave blocks to the deck to be tied off.

Super interesting is that these actually go through metal rings and not blocks (I think the British ran out of wood- (blocks make more sense). Using Longridge (the others Mackey and Goodwin also show this.) Pic courtesy of polish site.

The 3 on the Lower main mast are for the Mizzen stays. The block on the top of the mast is for the top gallant stay(why this one runs though a block???- must be British....like a cup of teaROTF.

These only apply to the main mast as the main stay and preventor stay run to the bowsprit. The Burton pendants are also fitted.

The lashings I have redone black - I tested the contrast but didn’t fit my ship. Red arrow- I got some paint on my pool table- got a bit of a rev from Arlene (the Admiral)Redface.

The frightening thing is how many more blocks still to go and for each block there is a rope....EishSpeechlessSpeechlessROTFROTF

Sounds like you need a piece of construction board to put on your pool table. This will give you an extra layer of protection that the Admiral will appreciate! ;)
Work is looking great Grant!

Good morning Dean. Hope you are well. That is probably a good idea. The felt is old tho and does need replacing. (Many truer word said in jest). With the kids all out of the house the bar and pool table are not used much. It is now officially my shipyard;). Does get Clean up when we have my crazy mates over for a braai tho.

Good morning. While adding blocks to the masts I have made some progress to my Mizzen standing rigging.

My insomnia returned (well...I had a oops on the downhill whoops on my MTB 2 weeks ago.I got another small concussion and fractured a tiny bone in my wrist. Freak it’s been a mad 2 years. Been riding off road dirt bikes for 25 years and only had one injury....and now?? Anyone tell me I’m getting too old (like the rest of my family)....I know where you liveROTFROTFROTF

Anyway long story to say I have had some building hours-

What a piece of work! Thumbs-UpThumbs-UpThumbs-Up

Grant, do you know if the present lanyard/deadeye setup is similar to the historical setup? I noticed on the Victory in Portsmouth that the lanyards are wrapped and tied off closer to the deadeyes. They also have some black wrappings (serving) at regular intervals where the shroud lines meet. I love your ship and the rigging. She’s coming along fine.3CFCBE44-473C-4CAC-9830-AF775C1658BB.jpeg

I can relate to the bike comments and the ship is looking great.

Good morning Vic. Thanks for this. I have decided to redo mine- what I attempted may have worked it I kept the turns up to the half hitches similar and going the same way. I think the correct way is as follow so hopefully I can fix this.
