Since the development of HMS Blandford(←you can click this to access that thread), I've been receiving some feedback about the difficulty it looks. Indeed, to make a big POF kit like that would require years of modelling experience, so how modelers without that much of experience can enjoy POF kits then? A few months ago, when I was browsing on digital museum, I accidentally found some beautiful cargo ships(Fig 1). Single mast, lovely size, easy to make, so i think it's the right time to start this project!

I then browsed through NMM about these lovely hoy, and found this, the Hayling. She is a mid 18th century cargo ship, built at a harbour near Portsmouth(Fig 2), for the purpose of carrying timber. She’s named after the big island next to Portsmouth, the Hayling island(Fig 3).

So back to the ship herself, for me, i think she got a very good-looking line(Fig 4), and lovely size for POF beginners. She got a total length of 672mm and a height of 607mm under the scale of 1:48. This is a picture of how she looks as a model(Fig 5).

This is great news, Victor! I think you choose an excellent ship to make a model\kit from. Personally, I always said, that it doesn't have to be a three-decker to make an attractive model. Now..., at the scale of 1:48 this should be a great model to build. On top of this, the open frame structure (POF) should make up a very attractive and fun building.

I cannot wait to see the pilot model built...

This will be an interesting kit !!!

Here is a Hayling scratch built in progres by @Gennaro

Our common hobby is getting more and more interesting
I also think, that such a Hoy as a POF-kit will get very big interest
and you can produce a highly interesting model out of it
Some of these hoys had a capstan but also a windlass for lifting heavy weights - great project!!!

Very good work - with every post you make your kit is getting more and more interesting for me.
Interesting to see the relatively flat bottom of the hull - no speed necessary, important for such kind of merchantmen was volume inside the hull.
I am pretty sure, that you are opening the door of POF-modeling for a lot of modelers.

I have to agree with Uwe, on the opening of the door (actually opening it much wide) to novice modelers looking for POF models. We can assume it will be at least the same (if not better) quality as the Blandofd kit went for sale here

Will the design phase plan include the rigging (mast, spars, lines) and the sails material alone with the kit, or optional?
