HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Indeed great work with the gratings Thumbs-Up
Hello John - a big welcome to the build log of the WB. Thank you so much for your kind comments. I have long admired your craftsmanship in building the Sovereign of Seas - you are creating an absolute beauty!

Good evening, Dear Friends

A very small update, but even small progress is progress.

All bulkheads have been removed ...

And inner planking on the Port Side has started. This will be a slow process as two planks an evening will be about the going rate.
It’s looking very nice‘ Heinrich. The ‘loose planks’ give quite some shivers, but they will stay in place. The grating gives nice lines with the light on the different direction of the grain.
Regards, Peter

Thank you, Peter. I am very happy with the gratings and the color effect, while the "loose planks" are already being double planked from the inside!

Dear Friends

Slowly but surely ..., I was able to glue a third strake of the inner bulwark planking (Port Side) this morning before work and added the final two tonight.

This picture shoes the completed inner planking on the port side. Tomorrow morning, I will just give it a quick run-over with some 360-grit sandpaper and that will be that. The red arrow indicates the inner planking line where the front stanchion/pillar of the center canopy will go. The yellow curve indicates the cutting line for the bulwarks once everything is completed.

Earlier this evening we have had a typhoon warning for Nantong with the result that school has been cancelled for tomorrow. That should give me the opportunity of making some good progress on the inner bulwark planking on the starboard side.

Not sure I could concentrate on my build up in a tower with a typhoon on the way, take care.

Hi Richie. Typhoon "Plum Blossom" (don't ask) arrived this morning at 2.30 am. At this stage it is mainly very heavy wind, but the rain is not too bad. Being so high up from ground level, the wind obviously sounds ominous, but I suppose the sound is worse than what it really is.

Be safe Heinrich!

Good morning Heinrich. Us SAFers don’t know typhoons so stay safe and enjoy some WB time.
Cheers Grant

Hello Heinrich, hope you have water and batteries for a day or two. We don't get typhoons but here along the gulf coast (Gulf of Mexico) we do get hurricanes and they can be treacherous. The grating frames are excellent as is your whole build.

Thank you very much for the compliments my friend -it is sincerely appreciated. Luckily the typhoon has passed (a bit of a storm in the teacup if you ask me) and tomorrow it is back to work!
