Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hello Grant,

I am catching up on your great work. I really like your technique for the second planking. If you don't mind, I am going to borrow your technique for planking on my Endurance. It is turning out very nice.

I like your detailed gun port lids, Grand. That are tiny hinges and ‘treenails’!
And about the gun carriage, you can enjoy yourself completely till every kind of detail you want/can. ;)
Regards, Peter
Good morning Peter. Thanks. I am going to detail them as much as I can. They are pretty small tho so can’t be too ambitious.
I like the stained cannon carriage you made Grant. I painted mine red to add some color, to an otherwise brown and black ship. ;)

Good morning Dean. It was your build that made me buy this Cazador kitThumbsup. I do like the red cannons and gave it serious consideration. I think as I painted my inner bulkwarks a red/brown colour I feel it will be an overkill. My Xebec plans do have some colour (green and blue) so I don’t want too much paint. Cheers Grant

Good morning Bill. Thanks. My planking pattern came out reasonably, I still made some lining errors as I had one strange whiskey plank at the end. With Venneer if you get it right there is almost no sanding to do. It is the nice thing about veneer. Cheers Grant

Good morning Peter. I saw your bored out cannons and it certainly makes a difference. This may test my skill level a bit. I also enjoy the stain, unfortunately I still have 20 to go as this was a quick size and test make. I have been looking at how you made so many parts/fittings on your Xebec (you have bashed this out of the park so I can't call it a Cazador anymore ;) ) and it is an amazing quality build. Cheers Grant

Hi Grant,
I used my proxxon / dremel to bore out the muzzle and a vice clamp to hold the barrel. Not that difficult to do and if you have a lathe it's probably even better.
I did the same with the swivel guns as well. Hope this helps a bit. :)

Good morning. Port side planking progress raw and no sanding.

While looking through the kit decorations (most of which I will not use) I saw these flowers and decided to use them for gun port lids on the stern. (Stuck on with prestick)I sprayed them matt black and then painted them old brass metallic. I like the look.

Starting to look really good Grant, I like the sweep of the stern. Your modifications are working very well. The adage ; 'If it looks right, it is right', comes to mind.
Super job. Cheers JJ..
