Fair American 1:48 Model Shipways Retrospective Log and Personal Modeling History

Beautiful job, you should be proud.
Dear Alan, thank you for the compliment! Overall, I am pleased with the results. I wish she was already under glass and in her proper place in our family room. Ok, I am proud of the model ;) :p Thank you for checking out my log!

Blessings,
Chuck

Newby. What a great post. Building my first ( Esmeralda) and you opened my eyes to so much. thankyou
Good morning, Don! Thank you for checking out my log! I'm glad it was helpful to you. Do you have a log going of your Esmeralda build? It's a great way to get help and encouragement.

Blessings.
Chuck

Prof, it seems strange that the frames for the hatches are so high. I'd hate to be manning the capstan; I'd be stubbing my toe every round.
I agree with you, Vic! Good eye. Another learning point for me. I went with the heights given by the plans and didn't think about how that scaled out for the ratings doing the work. Something I'll make a note of for the future. :)

I think @dockattner tried to address the making of hatches in his Vasa build. You'd have to search through 300 pages of comments to find it though.;)

Ha! I love that Vasa build! I need to set a weekend aside to give it a thorough read. I showed Paul's final pictures to Lovely Renee and she was astounded. Rightly so! I think, however, that I may need to add sails on some future build(s). She liked the sails on the Vasa bit too much ;) For that reason I'm not going to show her your Soleil Royal:p

She may say to forget the sails after looking at my SR.

Chuck, you've already shown a fondness for the 'accessories' available from Mr. Pessaro. He makes a kit for deck gratings.

Hello Grant! Very kind, sir! Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing Grant's Xebec in her full glory. Inspiring to see creativity and daring take form. In other words, keep up the groovy work!

He's feelin' groovy! You should check out Grant's Victory. His first model!
So glad to see your posts on the Fair American. I have been working on the FA for almost two years and am about twenty five per cent complete. I forced myself to work at a snail's pace because the was my second build (first was the SWIFT) and what I call am involved kit.. I have taken some poetic license with this build. I have avoided some steps that I felt were above my skills level. The build is a learning experience. I plan to read your posts a number of times as I continue.

Hello! Glad you took a look at my log. I wish you great enjoyment with your Fair American! I agree with you 100% about the learning experience of the build. I hope you keep on building. Every ship is a new adventure!
