Where is my post?

SORRY. Wrong forum. BUT, I am a beginner modeler (did a couple ships when I was very young w my brother). I did a lot of model plastic cars with detail.
I am interested in model ship/boat kits rated by skill level if possible. I am really interested in a kit for Chris Craft speed boats, so I don't know if that skill level is applicable. I am serious about getting involved and aim to also put together a hobby desk. Any suggestions there would be helpful. Nothing too sexy, Just functional.
Sorry again for the mixup. I stand corrected :). Kind of excited to get started, that along with stunt kites!

Welcome to the forums !

You probably typed it all out and forgot to hit the button to post/save it. :)

There are many kits to help you get started. Since you are here in the US, I would point you toward Model Expo. They have a great beginners set called Model Shipwright series. It is 3 kits that increase in difficulty and teach different aspects of building model ships. They even have a deal where if you build the first kit and send them a picture of it, they will send you a credit for the cost ! Here is a link to their post here in the forums.

In addition, in case you haven't seen it, we have a specific forum to help you get started! Here is a link to it:
Link to starter forum

It has sections on the tools needed, a section to help you pick your first kit and a section on reading material. It's a wonderful place to start.
And of course, there are a great many of us that are glad to help if you have questions. :) Don't be afraid to ask.

Out of curiosity, what part of the US are you in?
I'm in FL, a bit north of Tampa.

also from my side a warm welcome here on board of our forum

Hi, thanks for the information. I am in NJ, near Jersey Shore. My intention with building models is to fill my free time up so I don't have time
to think. Just want to keep busy.

Corsair,
I am taking the suggestion of starting with the Model Shipwrights series. I am also a hardware and tool guy also and cant wait to get some tools too! I’d love to buy a tool set off Amazon, seems several of them don’t include a razor saw. Hmm. Still I’ll start with the Dory and see what i need from there. I bought the book Ship Modeling Simplified, have yet to browse through it. Looking for ideas on setting up a dedicated hobby bench.

Thanks for the help. Everyone.

I believe that you will be very happy with the path you have started on. That book you purchased is a great book ! I also have it. Go through it thoroughly! You will definitely want a razor saw and the included small miter box included in the set. You won't need any power tools at this point.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you think of. :)

Jeff

This is a post I made a long time ago that list a lot of tools.

HELP! Want to busy the Dory kit but it’s going to take a while from Amazon? Anyone have better sources? I really want this ASAP. Thanks. I would have started a new thread but not sure where.

what kind of shipping information?
How much it will cost. They can't calculate that until you have almost completed your order since they need to know where you are.
If you want to know what shipping company they use or if they have it in stock, you can call them. There customer service is excellent !

Basically how long to get it. The order form does not show how they ship the item, what method or delivery service. Not worried on how much.
