HMS ENTERPRISE by Keith 1:48 scale. New Kit from M.D.

I have changed the method of making up the frames on the drawing sheet. I now just put a piece of sticky tape over the areas where the joints are, i.e. the chocks and make the frame directly over the drawing. When the glue is dry it lifts straight off without damaging the original so it can be used for both A and B side. No need to copy the original sheets. Works a treat

More Experience I think they should include a few "Test FRames" Next time But yes that would stop them sticking to the Plans
do you assemble both parts before cleaning them up
Thanks

Thanks very much Jeff. I am indeed counting this as a mile stone in the construction of this build. Everything fits so nicely in a tribute to the design and manufacture of this kit. Excellent job Modelship Dockyard!! The next step is the construction of the cant frames x1 to 8 (bow) and y1 to 8 (stern). Although first I think I shall glue all the these frames to the keel. A little daunting as this would then be permanent, but it has to be done at some point. Redface

Hi All.
A few photos showing the building cradle (or jig) in it's now complete form. It's been fun putting together this little project. The plywood is excellent quality and everything fits together perfectly to make a good strong construction to build the hull ribs in. As I've done in the past, l have given the whole thing a coat of tung oil. Not a specified step in the construction, but as the hull will be in this quite some time and temperatures and humidity change drastically here in southern Spain from winter/spring to dry, very hot summers, there is always the risk of the plywood construction warping or twisting slightly. I am taking no chances. It also looks nice as well I think

Hi All I think this might be URGENT
Working on the CUTWATER it says cut down to 4 - 4,5 mm
THe Figurehead needs to fit OVER this according to the Picture
Its NOT covered in the INstructions
I am not sure if the Top of the figurehead is level with the beakhead
I have a couple of books which show the figurehead level with the prow (NOT fitting at present but need to trim before i join it all
UpAny Ideas
Will eMail Victor

Hi Richard. Are you going to start your own build log where you can raise these points

nice work keef..ok...looks like I wont live long enough to await le Fleuron... doing my 1/30 RC now ..planning my next build..1/48 enterprize or al anatomy victory pardon no caps and punct..using one finger..all good ...no severance..just lazy..back in ny
i started Anatomy Victory not in the same ball game as this its like a toy versas professional will come back to anatomy later

Now all the midship frames are complete (1 to 37), these are the frames attached to the keel at 90 degrees, the next thing is to concentrate on the cant frames (x1 to x8 at the bow and y1 to y8 at the stern). They are set at an angle to the keel hence the name cant frames and require an entirely different approach. Unlike the 'straight' frames which are one piece made up of an A and B side, these are 2 separate units of A and B glued either side of the bow or stern deadwood. Also, to make things even more complicated, every other (the even numbered units) are not glued together at the floor timbers, but the A and B sides are to be treated as separate, i.e. not glued together. Each set of frames sit in the support notches either side of the deadwood which were made when the keel was first constructed. Attention must be taken to get the angle correct where the frames join the keel. This angle gets steeper the closer to the bow (or stern). So far all frames are dry fitted. A little fine tuning will be necessary when it comes to gluing everything permanently into place.
