Le Saint Philippe 1693 after Jean-Claude Lemineur (Ancre) in scale 1:48

It's hard to believe the vulgarity we all occasionally mutter, was involved in such a thing of beauty!!!

I'm so sorry your wife had to witness/overhear the "darker side" of what to most appears such a soothing and relaxing pastime!

I'm envious this rose from the keel in such short time. Thanks for sharing the awesome pictures.

As always, I get something new from your posts...this time it was the tiny tie-tie's and slender dowels to align the top of the frames. It will come in handy prior to glueing the top spacers.

Now enjoy fishing with grandkids. It's SO wonderful and MORE rewarding than a simple model...but watch that language! Three kids in a boat, with sharp hooks, invisible line, live worms, and short attention spans...you thought this stern build was frustratingROTFROTFROTF!!!

Excellent work Paul ! Like I said before, you can be your own worst critic.

The only thing I would say though, Please don't plank below the Wales ! Those frames are far to nice to cover with planks, mortices or not

Oh and yes, I used a angled head sander inside. Unless you have a lifelong relationship with these sort of tools I would otherwise advise against their use. I have seen one model ruined by a slip with one of these. Also my model is considerably larger with far more room to manoeuvre.

Thanks for the nice compliments, Brad.

My wife has counseled only taking the boys (5 and 4) leaving the 3-year-old granddaughter for her own solo outing. She envisions one fish on, one line snagged, one child falling overboard as being beyond my capabilities . You would think after forty years together she would know me better than that  (or maybe she does :)).

Thanks much, Nigel.

RE: planking below the wales. I now find myself having similar thoughts. There are some vertical framing chocks that should sit on the keel if that area is to be exposed. I'm not sure I can still get those in there. I may give it a go and then that will leave the option open. I would also need to add some filler in a few places that were damaged during deconstruction along the way.

Yes the chocks with the little crescent shaped holes, not clear in the Monograph if they go full length of the keel or just the central section. I took it that they went full length if they are to be effective in preventing hogging. I would suggest inserting them downwards from inside to avoid glue all over the frames. A dry fit will give you their height, trim to suit the "teeth" on the keelson;) Only then fit the Keelson once they are all in

Yup. Those are the ones. Michele installed them all the way to the end but the crescents peter out around frame 27. I agree that inserting them from above is the only way - that becomes an issue, however, because the futtocks of the more aft frame (of the pair) come into contact at some point near the back...

Looking at your pictures again I see what you mean. Personally I do not feel these chocks would go any further aft than the end of the Keelson which stops when you reach these frames. Structurally there is a breasthook from memory above these frames which would make chocking redundant. There is an element of conjecture on my part but much of the monograph is conjecture by Lemineur

Hi Paul,

Just found your new log.
I was looking for a seat but it's SRO (Standing Room Only)-- I have a drone with a custom built chair - "ll just hover around"
Oh -- and I might want to drop land and spend time in your gorgeous :cool:backyard.
=====

Ok I might have missed it --- are you planning on adding any lighting? Evan Designs - a vendor here has
excellent very miniature flickering 27k LEDs... You've seen my posts regarding adding lights to the Sovereign...Just a thought

Regards,

Hi John (Michael),
As you are licensed for air travel you can hover until a seat opens up. But I won't be providing lights for your landing zone...mind the chimney - its a tight squeeze.

I use the Proxxon one which is nice and small for this type of work. Works pretty good and provides proper control.

Looks great Paul.

We interrupt today's broadcast of the Golf Channel with breaking news: just moments ago American hobbyist Paul Kattner declared victory over a small wooden ship.

This announcement is most unexpected as it was only one short week ago, during a wellness check initiated by his devoted wife of forty years, that agents overheard Dr. Kattner run together a string of profane words rarely heard in civilized society. This from an eyewitness, "never before have I heard profanity elevated to the level of art. The subject's ability to keep tempo, rhythm, and crescendo in such perfect balance while simultaneously providing such breadth of vulgarity...it was breathtaking. The man is a walking thesaurus of obscenity!"

:rolleyes:ROTF:rolleyes:ROTF:rolleyes: Redface

Anyway, here's way too many pictures of the butt end of a ship model:

Yes, I know I'm not the first guy on the planet to fair a few frames ROTF - but I'm strangely delighted by this particular outcome considering the dark places I traveled through to get here.

I'm checking out for a bit to go on a family fishing trip next week, but I'll be back as long as I survive fishing with three grandchildren in the boat at the same time. Model on! And thanks very much for stopping by!
" I am just a vagabond
a drifter on the run,
and eloquent profanity just rolls right off my tongue...

And I have dined in palaces,
drunk wine with kings and queens,
But darlin', oh darlin'
You're the best thing I've ever seen"-
from "Roll 'Em Easy" by Lowell George of "LIttle Feat"

I always could appreciate a well-formed, zaftig butt! Thumbsup Thumbsup ;)

Pete
