Oseberg - Ver. 3 - Pavel Nikitin - 1:25

Well I did move the mast forward one frame, so I'm partially there. LOL

I emailed Pavel to see when the mast stem upgrade kit would be back in stock, he replied an hour or so ago stating it is back in stock. My guess is his web store won't be updated until Monday or so, anyway...good news!

advice needed.....ink on one scrollwork seems to be washed out with detail missing, and of a different color.......i emailed pavin to ask for a replacement for the lighter one, which i'd be happy to pay for, but no reply yet......is that an unreasonable request?......

That is not ink. The carvings were etched in by laser. Different sheets of wood will have different densities and will therefore char to a different degree. Even if there is no color, there should be some depth to the engravings. I haven't reached that point yet, but I may spray dye/stain/paint over the whole thing (VERY lightly) and then sand the surface, leaving the color in the depressions. I'll have to take a closer look at mine - there may be other methods.

I can't say for sure whether Pavel will send you a new one, but unless it is actually broken, I wouldn't hold your breath. The laser burns at the same power level on every sheet, it's just that some sheets don't char as much as others.

wow, that's an indepth responsel...thanks so much and i haven't gotten there yet either.............maybe i could use a tiny wire brush to remove some of the char from the dark one to balance them out more.....the depth of cut is very shallow.....i thought of some dark stain or black felt pen, but i think it would just sink into the high areas too deeply and ruin everything....will think on it some more.....cheers.....vc
