The different types of wood looks great, Paul. And for the overall looks …… What can a say …….Work in progress...
I have now added five rows of hull planks below the lowest wale. These strakes become progressively thinner as they approach the lower hull - something ordinarily not really observable on a ship model but clearly visible on a section model.

I'm thinking about leaving the rest of the lower hull exposed which is a significant change from my original vision for this model. If so, I will need to retrofit some chocks that sit at the base of each frame pair in relation to the keel (not installed previously because they would not be seen).
I also re-opened gun ports - an exercise that will need to happen again when the balance of the planks are installed (I suppose I could do this all at the end of planking but it makes me nervous to lose my visual cues re: frame edges).

Onward...

That’s looking very nice, Paul. A fine base for the nailing and final sanding.Work in progress #2...
Modeling time remains in short supply and the forecast for the short term is for more of the same. I have completed the planking in between the two lower wale pairs (in association with the lower gun ports) and irregularities between these strakes have been leveled (final sanding after nailing):

Thanks for the visit!

I had no doubt whatever finish you choose it will be perfectly executedModeling time remains in short supply and the forecast for the short term is for more of the same. Ah yes, life happens: children, grandchildren, and weddings are the good stuff. Great job keeping the important things the important things. And let's not forget you are here and healthy to experience every moment! I'm happy for you, Herman!Hi Paul.
The last couple of months there was little news on my shipyard I am afraid,
In the meantime I renovated an apartment for our youngest daughter, we welcomed our 3rd grandchild and one of our daughters got married.
On top of that my direct colleague is absent for a long period of time so I have had no chance to take some time off this year.
But the fact that I now join the forum again can be considered an indication I found my way back again so I hope to post some progress soon.
This is a very nice post, Dean. I am merely a technician compared to your artistry - but we play the hand we are dealt to the best of our abilities.Excellent work Paul! Definitely top notch ship building going on over there in your workshop!![]()

A little miss communication error. I ment your execution of planking, but rest of the statement does not changeThanks, Wojtas - I've been ignoring the subject of finish for the time being but I do appreciate your confidence!

I have to check the “watched” pull-down frequently since I also seem to stop getting notifications after a certain period of timeI spent the afternoon reviewing the last 3 months of your wonderful build. As usual, I am in awe of your work, detailed log and wonderful pictures!!!
Now I have to figure out why I am NOT getting notifications of new posts in build logs I follow???
I thought everyone was taking a fall break.
