Corsair H.M.S. Enterprize Build Log

So, I think I'm going to delay working on the upper stern until after I do some of the internal stuff so the stern timbers are not in the way. :)
Unless one of you has some insight as to why I should do it now. :)
I realize that it will also delay the installation of the upper inner planking too, but I don't think that will be a big deal.

Hey Jeff,

That looks really great. Beautiful work. I think you're right, and I wouldn't do it any differently. Thumbsup

Sometimes you just have to follow your intuition, Jeff. Looking back will reveal ..... but that's easy to say. But I can appreciate a little bit of ‘stubbornness’.;)
Regards, Peter

Hello Jeff! I suggest installing the stern transom wings and gunport sills before proceeding with other steps! We've all made the same mistake—the installation sequence for the stern matters! The correct order should be: first install the stern transom wings, then install frame Y8. If the sequence is wrong, you'll find that frame Y8 obstructs the installation of the stern transom wings, making it much more difficult. So it’s best to address this issue early! Second, installing the gunport sills can reinforce the hull structure, making it easier to perform internal sanding later on.

I notice that the Arban had installed his Inner and OUt er planking to make sure the tops of the frames are right
Have you done the Mast Holders on the Keel
Trying to work out if the Mizzen has a slot for the Mizzen Mast like the Fore and Main
Fitting all those now and the Other Supports
Might just tack C2 in for now
Feek as though i am getting there
I am finding it quite difficult to work on models now due to Knees , Osteoporosis and of course Timers disease
Its Really frustrating

I am waiting till i get the hull out of the Jig before i add the LOwer Stern Deadwood

Jeff, FWIW, with transom complete I found zero interference of any kind, tend to agree with Arban, installing final frames, door, etc., helps greatly establishing final sweep of the hull, establishing spacing for rear windows and even finishing up internal deck beams as well as the Y8 instillation that Arban mentions allowing everything to be tied together.
Also, I found you cannot completely trust the jig supports as to spacing before you glue[pin] them. Here I pulled the transom sheet with window cutouts to get my spacing fairly accurate with modest tapers top to bottom on outside timbers.
Course, big reason I went that course was to do outside planking to give hull greater strength but all went reasonably well.
Jumping around somewhat avoids tedium as well.
Keep her going.

Tim

If I understand your question correctly the contemporary inboard profile drawing (RMG ID ZAZ3383) shows the mizzen step with a slot where it goes over the keelson similar to the main mast step and foremast step and rests on the frames.

I've already installed the Y8 cant frames. and most of the transom wings. I was referring to the counter timbers and their associated parts. I will definately look at installing the lower gunport sills.

Thank you very much for your guidance !!

Thanks Richard. :)
After I finish the transom wings, I'll install the Kelson. Then the lower gunport sills as Arban recommended. Then I'll install the lower inner planking.
Once I've done that, I'll probably address the rest of the stern build. Or maybe I'll wait until after the lower decks. :) We'll see. :)
And I agree with you, I'll wait until I take the hull out of the jig to install the stern deadwood. :)

Thanks Tim.

Although a long way off, a question to any and all with this build.
Any thoughts as to leaving everything natural wood as opposed to red ocre on upper structures, ports, etc. and possibly yellow, red, blue on upper hull ?
One consideration will be if Victor comes through with decorative friezes.
