L'Orenoque Mamoli 1:100 scale

Namabiiru!

Thank you for the tips and the warning ROTF I'll work at it and try to produce something my artists-eye can tolerate. I don't think I'll be able to get away with using CA to glue stuff together as I did the railings on my Harriet Lane.

Too right about a certain someone (looking at you Paul:p).
This is so coincidental Chuck. I spent some time trying my first solder experiment last night and it became a blob explosion very quickly ROTF. A quick you tube lesson revealed much I was doing wrong. My hinges went to file 13 in no time. Cheers Grant

Grant! Sorry for the delayed response! Well, I've seen the results of your short youtube lesson. Your work remains superlative, sir! I have finally gotten back into the shipyard and commenced on the soldering. Got myself a pen torch. Still working on my technique, but it's going so far so good. ;)

Blessings.

What ho, shipmates!

For a variety of reasons, I haven't been in the shipyard as intended over my Christmas break. Really, the whole period has been one disaster after another. Time with family; an expert gig that popped up out of nowhere and a trip to New Orleans where I sweated my butt off. Here are a few snaps of my disappointing holidays - including the gift Santa brought me - a live baby doll:eek::eek::eek: - What am I supposed to do with a live baby doll? I asked for USS Kearsarge from BlueJacket!

Well, thank heavens all of that is behind me! I'm back in the shipyard with progess to report! So, stay tuned!

In the meantime a final thought for the beginning of a new year and evey day.

"One river gives its journey to the next

We give because somone gave to us.

We give because nobody gave to us.

We give because giving has changed us.

We give because giving could have changed us.

We have been better for it,
We have been wounded by it --

Giving has many faces:
It is loud and quiet,
Big, though small, diamond in wood-nails.

Its stoy is old, the plot worn and the pages too,
But we read this book, anyway, over and again;

Giving is, first and every time, hand to hand,
Mine to yours, yours to mine.

You gave me blue and I gave you yellow.

Together we are simple green.

You gave me

What you did not have, and I gave you
What I had to give -- together, we made
Something greater from the difference."

I haven't gone back and confirmed that I posted the progress showing the completion of the facades for the inboard sides of the sponsons. I think I did, so I'm going forward at flank speed!

I did build the bridge and I have finished the smokestack. Nothing complicated about the bridge, but you'll see it in the followong photos of the smoke stack.

As you know, at this point I'm making educated guesses about what L'Orenoque had on her deck. The kit is useless. There are no available deck plans. It dawned on me to make use of the investment I made in the L'Aigle plan set and monograph. So, the smokestack and most of the objects on the deck will replicate what's on L'Aigle's deck and happily the scales match!

I made my stack out of black artists paper, same method as on Harriett Lane. Here it is next to the parts from the kit

I decided not to go with a crown top for the smokestack. Although some images of this class of ship show a crown top, I the majority show no crown. Here it is aboard and pretty much finished.

Next up? I'm thinking crank houses and capstans. I'll have to make the crank houses. I sourced some of the lovely 1:96 scale kits from Dry Dock for the capstans. And maybe, I'll add a surprise or two ;)

Here are the L'Aigle crank houses:

Here's another resource that I got a while back when I was thinking about how to turn Krick's Gulnara into an early Royal Navy paddle warship. The plan view is of the Argus 1847.

Still thinking about a green band on the funnel.

And here I thought Crank House was just another name for my forever home…

What ho, shipmates!

A few snaps of L'Orenoque's crank houses ROTF - (Namabiiru, I'll never think of them the same way again.)

I decided on something more like a skylight for my build. For safety purposes, keeping objects out and the cranks in, I used some of the superfine brass mesh Namabiiru was so kind to contribute to my build. I still need to add hinges.

What ho, shipmates!

Last post at the end of a lovely day in Shangri-la Shipyard where I spent the day making tiny things that will be invisible for the most part :p

The crank houses are complete! Here are some shots of the finished work. As you can see I had to take off the bridge to get the pics. Once the bridge is in place and the ladders and railings are attached and the rigging is complete . . . you'll barely be able to see the crank houses and you never notice the hinges - Best day!!!

Also, I added a spark arrestor to the funnel.

Thanks for looking in!

Blessings. Peace. Gratitude.
