That looks fantastic Tobias! Have you detailed somewhere how you made the square wire? Did you hammer lengths of wire, or do you have a square drawplate?

Hi @BradNSW , yes, of course you can do that for the Salamander. Strictly speaking, you should. However, those aren't wooden nails up there, but iron ones.
Generally, on French ships, only iron is used up to the waterline, and then wood and iron.

@RussF , regarding your question, yes, I use a wire drawing die. I have two: one for round wire, which limits me to buying only one size.
The second one is for making square wire.
These wire drawing dies are sold in jewelry supply stores, so anyone looking for one should check there.

My friend, I think I wrote something about this earlier in the report. But no problem, I use "Ballenmattierung" (Ball Matting) from Clou.

What is Ballenmattierung?
Ballenmattierung is a product for manually finishing wooden workpieces. In just a few steps, you can achieve a satin-gloss surface. The surface must be dry, grease-free, and dust-free. I've tried many different varnishes, oils, and waxes. For me, the Clou product is the best. Why? For example, a treated surface can easily be roughened with sandpaper or completely stripped of its finish without leaving any residue.

Thanks Tobias. You did but I had forgotten….was too lazy to sort through 54 pages . Thanks again however I cannot get Clou here so will have to stick with linseed oil. Cheers Grant
