ZHL San Felipe 1690 - Ted R

I've been trying to find a reference book to use on building the masts, sails,.rigging hardware etc on my San Felipe.
Attached is a book is just found and I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this book and would it be appropriate.

I bought this book with the same intention... I would say that it's very dense, technical and wordy, and way too advanced for me. It's probably the ultimate reference book on the subject, but man it's hard going.
For someone with a bit of time on their hands, however, who might be in hospital and a bit bored, this book would be a fascinating deep-dive research project.

Hope you're on the mend Ted and that you can soon get back home to your therapeutic ship-building. All the scientific research shows that the people who have a project to engage them and move forwards with are those who get better faster!

Ted, I have this book which to be honest is the opposite of wordy! It essentially has diagrams which are quite good. I found it useful.

Thank you for your kind words. Being a word junkie, have to read everyday, I think I'll get the book does it have a lot of illustrations showing details of the mast paper and rigging.

I bought that one. Holding off on the other due to medical expenses this month setting my budget on fire.
Thanks

The 18thC Rigging book DOES have diagrams of the rigging, but to be honest, they're lost in the dense text. It's a very big book, highly technical, definitely one for academics and those who are deep into the details of rigging. I'll just add a sample page, one of the more useful ones, so you can judge.
IMG_1930.jpegFor me, as Rob444 says, the Petersson book is way more useful.

That says it all. Not what I was looking for. Thanks

Good morning Ted. Wishing you all the best with your health. Be strong and keep building you are making great progress. Kudos on the deck planking it is looking mighty fine. You are going to have to ask the hospital for a room to sand everything ;) . Cheers Grant

I’ll probably have to find my way to a patio or at least outside.

Two more trips to the emergency room and still in the hospital again. Things aren't looking good for the old San Felipe.
Previous nursing home dropped in on its bow when packing my stuff. They were angry the VA system pulled me out of their and opened an investigation on the facility. They broke off and lost the four forward frames where they protrude above the upper deck to provide backing to build the bulkwarks. Also lots the upper front cannon false wall that make the front of the ship. Most of the false cannon blocks are loose as is many mid deck connections to the frame.
I'm thinking about finding a shorter,u smaller and simpler project to replace the old girl and put her on in the back burner.
She is going to have to be completely dismantled to get right and I just don't have the heart energy proper location and temperament to deal with it right now.
I just wanted to explain why I haven't been online lately begging for help. I truly enjoy watching everyone else build the works of art shown on this site and the vast array of knowledge at.hand. the friendliness in this site is greater than any other I have ever been associated with and I thank you all.

Happy modeling
Ted

So sorry to hear about the San Felipe, Ted, but even more concerned about your health! I hope your issues leading you to the ER have been resolved. I agree that perhaps a less ambitious project might be in order while you're staying in a rehab unit. Best wishes to you - I hope everything turns out well!
