HMS Victory 1:72 - Caldercraft by Gilbertm

Hello friends
Short update on the build.
I have assembled the steam trunk, bitt pins and installed the quarter deck which is now ready for planking.

While preparing the quarterdeck, I realized that I forgot to include wires for the lights behind the screen assembly. I'll be able to adjust this, using the wires that are currently on hold for the stem lanterns. Good that the poop deck is not yet installed.

Let's now go and start deck planking :)

I have assembled the steam trunk
I realize this is probably a translation situation, but I am curious to know which part(s) is a steam trunk on the Victory? :) I know it can be crazy with translations of old English words for various parts such as the example of gun carriage trucks translating to camions instead of roue or roues en bois.

Thanks Gilbert.

Allan

Hey Allan
I had built both the steam trunk and the skid beam assembly and realize that I forgot to mention the later in my previous post. My bad.
Anyway, regarding the steam trunk, this is the term used by Caldercraft in the instructions; I have no clue of its purpose and anyway, it is hidden under the quarter deck.

Good morning Gilbert. The rigged cannon look great. Wow- I love the pictures of the whole ship. As always you have the skill to make these huge ships look so impressive- I can’t wait for the finished product…..Cheers Grant

Hi Grant
Many thanks for your feedback; I really appreciate it
Looking at what's ahead, I believe you'll have to wait a bit for the finished product :p
Cheers

Now ready to add the quarterdeck fixings; this should be fun ...

Hello friends
Now that the quarterdeck is planked, I have started adding the quarterdeck fixings. Lots of progress to report this week.

- Forecastle gratings
- Forecastle belaying pins
- Belfry and forecastle breast beam assembly
- Quarterdeck barricade assembly. As recommended by Caldercraft I did not include the fragile hammock cranes for the time being.
- Waist ladders
- Lining the quarterdeck rigging opening and quarterdeck belaying pins
- Main companionway
- Companionway to admirals dining cabin
- Quarterdeck kevels, shot garlands, pin rails and belaying pins. I am missing a few cannon balls (lost quite a few :)) and have to get some extra ones from Caldercraft.

As you can see this was a pretty busy week.

I'm off for the next 2 weeks and shall resume the build towards the end of March.

Cheers
