INFO The Moderators Comments

Ruediger,
My sincere apologies, I will look into this and get it posted. I will confirm with you in a moment.

As of today, there are now 1,028 ships in the Gallery. This has been more of a labor of love than anything else, spanning over 15 years. Being quite labor-intensive, which includes: 1) Editing images for proper background and foreground lighting, sharpening (focus problems), cropping out unwanted objects from the background, etc., 2) writing code to prepare "pages" and thumbnails to be uploaded, 3) editing and writing more code within the forum. 4) uploading all material to the Server.

Therefore, I am thinking of bringing an end to this era. I have discussed this with @zoly99sask and need to include @Jimsky. I have researched a separate Software program to do the job. However, it remains that 70% of all images will still need to be edited before they justify being included in a "new" themed Gallery.

Most of the work (at least 70%) is working with images, and only 20% is coding. The last 10% is Server Files Transfers.

Manually creating the Gallery or Software is still not going to ease the burden of the Gallery due to the front-end work of editing the images first. Therefore, honestly, I hate to dissolve myself of this long-term commitment, but I think it is time to let the Gallery be as it is. 1,068 is a lot of entries over the past 15 + years. I think I need to retire from this.

Each entry has an average of 20 pictures per person, which comes out to about 20,560 images total at everyone's fingertips for viewing and research.

The "Submit Images of Completed Models" section is well enough to carry on as it is - people can still view images and make comments about them

Kindly
Donald Driskell

Thanks Donnie, It's fun to have work displayed on SOS.

Ragnar
Indeed, and an honor. Many, many thanks for all your hard work and dedication! It is fun to peruse the gallery. Indeed, akin to going to a museum without enough time to take everything in on one visit!
I am proud to be represented.

Pete

Does anyone know if there is a way to see all completed models of a certain name, for instance all Santa Maria's? Or all completed models in the gallery in alphabetical order?
I asked this question before, but did not get an answer.

The gallery has no search options, you need to go through the pages one by one,but @Donnie can correct me if I am wrong

Or use a intermediate step bij looking in the
—> INDEX <— in the top of the main build-log’s. (Wood / Plastic / Scratch / Paper) There I see a lot of Santa Maria’s with hyperlinks.
PS: The models in the Group Builds are not in those index lists.

Please take note: I apologize for the long delay in getting your ship images into the Showcase Gallery. Life can sometimes navigate me into different directions. I have been working on getting these uploaded, and I am almost halfway done. This list will be sent out again when completed. Thank you for your patience in the matter. Now, back to work.

As a side note, all images have to be chosen and photoshopped to a certain degree to make your ship look the best it can. Then, a special computer code has to be manually written as the forum does not have an image gallery (of what suits my desires) to upload this type of material. So, I found that creating my own Gallery is best. The downside is more work. At some point, I have tried to decide if I want to continue adding more ships to the Gallery, but so far, I have not received much feedback on the situation.

Hi Donnie,

Absolutely, I think you should keep adding models to the gallery.

Over the years, SOS has accumulated an incredible collection of work from talented builders, and the gallery serves as both a showcase and a source of inspiration for current and future members. It would be a shame to let those models disappear into old forum threads where they can easily be overlooked.

The gallery is one of the first places many visitors look when they want to see what can be achieved in our hobby. It highlights the craftsmanship, creativity, and dedication of the members who make this forum special.

So, in my opinion, keep them coming. Every model added helps preserve a little piece of the forum’s history and gives others something to learn from and aspire to.

Thanks for all the work you do to keep SOS running smoothly.

Julian

Thank you all for the kind responses.

refugee,
if you look at these pages 1 - 25, [link below], you will see many ships that are listed with photos in the "Showcase Gallery". I would go through the "Completed Builds Forum Section" and collect the Ships Photos / Builders Info, etc and make a special Gallery for them. I started this a very long time ago. However, over the past 8 months to almost a year, I was probably preoccupied with other things going on in life and just did not get around to updating the gallery.

Whenever I would create a person's gallery, I would send out a "@" with the person's name, telling them that they had a submission in the Gallery that was posted, and I would give them the link to view their PERSONAL page. It has just been a tradition ever since.

It is obvious (LOL) that from the list, I neglected updating for a long time. So, it is going to take about another week for me to get all this work done. When it is done, I will make another announcement right here telling everyone to go and visit the Showcase Gallery. When you click on the ship's thumbnail, it will show more in full view. This also helps in documentation for other builders to have a good reference. Also helps in the SOS community.

Dear Freinds,
I have finally completed 3 pages of Showcase Gallery images. If you click on your thumbnail, you will see your page that was created. I hope you enjoy and hopefully next time I will not wait so long to complete.

If you see any images, names of ships, or your name that is not correct, then you can contact me and I will do my best to make corrections. If there are ships that are not listed that you wish, then just send me the link in the forum. However, I will say that unfortunately as I have always said that some images are just too difficult to manage and crop or have too much background. However, I did my best to save as much as I could. All in all, there were 80 ships that was entered into the Gallery.

Thank you again members for being a part of the best ship and model forum there is - - and thank you all again for your generous donations - it is greatly appreciated !!!

See this list below.

Here are the pages that have ships added or are completely new pages. Click on the link and see if you can find your ship(s).
