HMS Royal Caroline kit ZHL 1/30

Further progress on the for castle deck. The last horizontal knees are fitted in place with bolts.

Now time for the vertical knees, starting with the aft deck beam of the fore castle deck. I fit these first to the bulwark only to still be able to remove the deck beams. When the fore castle is finished I can finally fit the deck beams.

I also added the rings to the bitt.

The set of knees for the second beam is already sawn but still needs fine tuning to finally fit in place.

Thats next time.

Hallo Maarten, the bolts for the knees are looking very realistic, looking like a bolt with washer.
Could you please explain, if not already done somewhere, how you make them?
Hi uwe,

I was also happily sirprized by the look and feel of these in the pictures. They are actually the nails supplied with the kit which I only shortened and burnished to give them a more iron look instead of brass.
So in this case all the credits go to the Chinese Mr. Lu Hai Quing Kong who is the developper of this kit.

Very good - please could you make a photo of the original nails ? - to get an impression how they looks before? - Many thanks in advance

Offcourse see below. Indeed these nails give a perfect simulation of a bolt with a ring, the burnishing stimulates this effect even more.

And burnished.

I don't know if these can be ordered via max or via taobao. I will have a look at it.

Everytime I tried to get things there, I can read everything in English except for the shipping and pricing information. Useless if you ask me.
Gents there is an easy way around this.
Download the google translate app on your phone.
Go to the Taobao site on your pc and when you open your google translate app on your phone you can use your camera on your phone to translate. So when the shipping info shows use your phone to translate.
Hope it helps.

After a fantastic week of skiing in the Dolemites ( Italian Alps) enjoying the snow, sun and excellent Italian food it is time to go back and pick up where I left a week ago.

My RC was waiting for me in the sun shine in my office where she is docked when not working on her ( most time )

The sun and shade really brings forward the beauty of the delicate carvings.

Back to bussiness which means the knees of the deck beams.
After the sawing of the knees which I showed previously I pre drill the holes for the knee bolts which I glue into them with CA and the cut off followed by filing them flat. The nails are there purely for decoration.

Then it is a matter of glueing them in place.

According to the AotS drawings the forward deck beam is not fitted with a vertical knee, so all knees are now fitted.
Next step is fitting the bolts to the shelf clamp which is the last major task in the deck beam contruction.

And after fitting the deckbeams in place.

Next time building the bowsprit support.

G'day my dear friend.
You looked soooooo cool in your ski outfit. Lol;):D
Now regarding your RC.......again brilliant! Thumbsup
Question regarding the bolts, are you going to show the other end of the bolts from the vertical and horizontal knees to the beams?

Gents, many thx for your comments.

Hi Greg, Jim

I had to look cool because the temperatures were not at 9 deg C. during the afternoon. You still can start a skiing carreer. It is a rush to ski down a mountain from 3250 mtrs at a speed of around 70 kmh.

I have been thinking about adding the other end of the bolt in some places. In most places there is already a horizontal knee with bolts fitted. Now you mention it I will surely add them where possible.
